  1. It could be appropriate  under adult supervision but it doesn't take much for something inappropriate to be found just simply by typing in something innocent sounding.

  2. Yeah you should and you might want to disable comments on any videos she makes. You'd be surprised at how rude some people can be there.

  3. Absolutely, you don't let a 12yr old roam the net,

with all these child predators around.

  4. Just keep a eye on what videos she puts on it and what she is watching.

Make certain she has good judgment on this. While they say we need to constantly monitor what our kids do online, realistically speaking its impossible to be looking over your childs shoulder 24/7. Thus "banning" her from using Youtube might only encourage her to sneak behind your back and do it-in which case you would never know at all what she is looking at. For instance she could always trot over to the local library or a friends house and use the computers in there if you forbid her from doing it at home.

Use the computers history to check what videos she is looking at or uploading herself. If you see anything that you dont like dont be afraid to tell her about it.

  5. Of course you should.

It has nothing to do with trust. She could simply do a search for Barney and may end up clicking on some unappropriated video.

All parents should be monitoring their children on the internet.

  6. Wow. I have been on youtube ever since i was 10. I was always allowed i just didn't get into it until i was 10.

she HAS heard way worse at school

  7. Supervised use of UTube is probably okay, but it does need supervision.  A lot of what is on the site is good clean fun, but there are things a 12-year-old shouldn't see.

You should always supervise a child's computer and internet use--sometimes it's even a way to learn things you didn't know about computer literacy, as kids are generally a lot more computer savvy than most adults.

  8. Ok so heres how you do it, for windows xp or vista DO NOT HAVE HER HAVE HER OWN PASSWORD. Now install the internet explorer called Mozilla Firefox. Then in options make it so that passwords are saved automatically. Then you will be able to see all her passwords and secretly check myspaces, youtubes, emails, etc.

  9. Yes MONITOR her.

YOUTUBE IS NOT MONITORED BY ANYONE AND VIDEOS ARE ONLY REMOVED AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN SEEN BY MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED.

YOUR DAUGHTER COULD ACCIDENTALLY FIND A VIDEO OF PEOPLE HAVING s*x, SOMEONE COMMITTING SUICIDE, SOMEONE BEATING OR SLASHING A CHILD OR HOMELESS PERSON, TORTURING A DOG.....GET THE PICTURE?

ANYONE CAN POST ANYTHING THERE---AND THEY DO.

  10. no.

    she's 12.

not 8. she's almost a teenager. let her breathe.

  11. yes i would monitor your 12 yr old while watching youtube, there are some adult themes on this site, that are unsuitable for younger viewers,

  12. i would say if you trust her then you shouldnt have to moniter her on youtube. the only really bad thing would be her seeing all the cuss words on alot of videos

  13. you should, but give her some space too. youtube prohibits pornographic material on their site. however, coarse language and sexual references are allowed.

  14. yep, you should be monitoring her.

there are vids that can actually scare people and cause trauma heh. and a bunch of other bad vids.

  15. well if it's x****d you have to be an adult but there are a lot of photos that might not be age appropriate. Alot of the videos look like they are dirty but then when you click on them it's regular stuff people are doing that hoping it attracts more viewers but you can put a watch on what she views on there!

  16. There are certainly things on youtube that are appropriate for twelve year olds - but there are also a whole lot that aren't. Personally I think you should be monitoring her use of it - and she shouldn't be uploading any content herself yet. Not sure what the minimum age is to have an account, but you should abide by it. It's there for a reason.

  17. of course it is appropriate you find hear and see worse stuff on the playground trust me im 13... you wouldnt believe a lot of the stuff that happens...

just add the parental control thing... wont let her see things that are flagged as p**n super violent very bad language so on and so forth

  18. No, youtube is a fine website, they block p**n and stop all under 18s from viewing age inapropriate videos.

  19. Yes you should monitor her. I have found some nasty things on there without trying.

  20. no I'm 12 and i go on youtube all the time. since she's younger then 18 theres a limit in what she can watch.

  21. I think YouTube is a great place for entertainment, but you might consider monitoring her actions there. You might even sit down with her some and watch videos together. At her age, she's not going to want you there all the time though.

    1. Comments are the main thing, as many of the videos on YouTube are very controversial, particularly videos involving politics. I can guarantee that 100% of the time these videos will start a war between users in the commenting section. Many of the comments are hateful, racist, or otherwise offensive and inappropriate.

-Unfortunately there is no way to block comments from being viewed at this time.

    2. Make sure your daughter has an account that defines her as being below the age of 18. This will ensure that videos that have been marked as inappropriate cannot be viewed on her account.

    3. I recommend you surf YouTube for a bit by yourself and see what you think of it.

    4. I also recommend you view the YouTube Abuse and Policy Center as well as the Terms of Use (links are below).

  22. I would monitor it a little , But don't go crazy with it. Give them a little space. But every once in a while look at the videos shes been watching and stuff.

Because there ARE some nasty / bad things on youtube.

Just make sure you don't go perental control crazy cause then they'd get VERY mad and fusterated with you. lol.
