Is vegan a way to loose a lot of weight?

Do lots of people look like their stuper skinny being vegan?

The only way it would even start to make you lose weight is because of the lack of fat from meat sources. Fat can also come from other food sources you are replacing your meat and animal products with. You may lose some weight, but it is not exactly the most healthy diet you can be on. A lot of people have had to discontinue their vegan lifestyle because they were lacking the proper amino acids (gotten from complete proteins in animal products). I've had friends that went vegan and vegetarian and they lost some weight but there were by no means  thin by any stretch of the imagination.

A better alternative would be to switch to very lean meats and pay attention to portion sizes. Probably the most powerful tool in helping someone eat properly is a food journal. They are a sure fire tool to help you lose weight.

It can lead ot weight loss, yes but that's not what it is about. I am not a vegan myself but I think, going vegan to lose weight cheapens and trivializes the principles behind it.

It's like somebody saying I wanna be a Catholic so I can get free wine during mass.

It can be, but regardless of whether you eat meat or not, you can lose weight if you eat healthy, low calorie food and exercise.  Lean meats like chicken and turkey as well as low fat dairy products such as yogurt and cottage cheese are great.  They contain protein which keeps you filling full longer.  The key is to burn more calories than you consume and if going vegan will help you do that, then go for it.

Exercise and a good diet is the way to lose a lot a weight. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in.

A properly planned vegan diet is healthy and nutritionally complete, if you incorporate exercise into that, you may lose weight.

Do not expect to become "super skinny" without working toward that goal.

While it's possible to be fat and vegan, it takes a bit more effort. If you want to lose weight, it's much better to just start exercising more and try to eat a bit less. Stick to healthy, whole foods and avoid refined carbs and pre-packaged foods.

Veganism is not a weight loss diet.  It's a way of life that seeks to reduce animal suffering.

Weight loss is a function of burning more calories than you consume.  This can be done regardless of the composition of those calories.  There are skinny vegans, fat vegans and everywhere in between.

Vegan means you are only adding to your body nutrients, by eating other foods with bad fats, lots of sugars, questionable additives you are gaining weight cause it's bad for you and your body takes longer to process all that junk. Vegan you are only getting nutrients so it breaks down faster and you will have more energy and lean muscle mass!! It is a very healthy way of like and if you do go on a diet being vegan the weight will come back as soon as you stop being vegan cause you are putting all those bad things right back in your body. I am vegan for 5 years now and I stay lean and fit and I'm a hairdresser and all we eat is junk but I can eat anything anywhere and not gain bad weight!! Good luck!

yeah some people go vegan to live healthier lives but if you eat nothing but vegan pizza and vegan bread you will lose nothing

Many people do lose weight initially, because many of the high calorie foods they ate before are not vegan.  Going vegan gives you an excuse to turn down the greasy pizza, ice cream, and birthday cake.  If you don't make an effort to stick to a healthy diet, however, the weight can come right back on.  There are lots of plant based fats and simple carbohydrates.  

Vegans do avoid a fair amount of saturated fat and all cholesterol, but weight loss is about calories consumed vs. calories burned.  Plain potato chips are vegan, and high in empty calories.

I think vegans tend to be thinner, on average, mainly because they pay more attention to what they eat.  Most people, when they adopt a vegan diet, begin paying attention to what nutrients they are getting in order to make up for animal sources of things like protein and calcium.   They become more conscious of what they're eating, and are less likely to snack mindlessly on junk food.
