  1. Be really careful about the restaurants that you eat at!  My daughter is a vegetarian and got  an all vegetarian Chinese maindish one time and we had to toss it out!  Seems the cook didn't use a fresh pan everytime, just wiped the pan out...The food tasted of meat.

  2. Ask the restaurant.  That's the only true way to find out.  If the person doesn't know, have them go back and ask the cook.  Make sure to say that you tip well and then do it.

  3. I worked at a place once that made alot of chinese styles dishes. Yes, we put oyster sauce on d**n near everything!!! The only true vegetarian dish at MY particular restaurant was Sweet and sour tofu.

You can ask for anything without the sauce though!!

toomuchtv... as a former waitress, I respectfully want to add that its really insulting when people say things like that to servers. I know you don't mean it to be, but it is. Typically when someone says, " I tip really well so bend over backwards for me! " they tip pretty badly. The server should have no problem whatsoever though in asking the kitchen about the dish if they are unsure of the ingredients, as its definitely their job to do so. At my waitressing job, I was REQUIRED to know every single ingredient in the dish. Its important in case a guest has an allergy. But I frequently checked on ingredients just to make sure the customer was in the clear. But don't ever wave the tip in front of the server to entice them to work harder. They should work to make you happy regardless and then you can tip well at the end to reward that.

  4. yes chaina there is no concept of vegetarians so may be true.If u want to be pure vegetarian avoid such food. Some chines food from vegitables & nudles u can take

  5. Probably not.  Most items have chicken stock

  6. Ask at the restaurant. They might use beef broth when they add the noodles to the wok or for seasoning the veggies.  It seems almost universal at chinese restaurants that they use chicken broth for Buddha Delight which is veggies and tofu.  Seriously, VEGGIE BROTH people!
