  1. Yes but make sure they don't add mayonnaise to the filling. The Japanese are nuts about mayonnaise and put them on most items. Their is nothing sinister about it, they just don't know any better.

I once ordred tofu "steak" at Japanese restaurant which turned out to be deep fried tofu smothered in ground pork, onions and teriyaki sauce. I asked the  waiter if they could make me a new one without adding pork and they were kind ebough to oblige. Most restaurants will serve you what you ask for as long as you let them know your restrictions.

  2. You'd have to ask.

I love eating the vegetable rolls and I found out that sometimes the stocks that are used in the sauces or marinades are fish-based.

You're usually safe, but it never hurts to ask.

  3. If "sushi" doesn't contain seafood, then it's not really sushi.  So, vegetarian "sushi" would just be vegetables prepared in a "sushi-style" .....It would depend what the sauce contains, as to whether or not it's vegan.  If there's no added sauce, and you're just dipping it into wasabi & soy sauce, that's fine......

  4. I guess other people have basically answered this question for you, but I have something to add!  Be aware of the ingredients of any soy sauce you have with your sushi.  More often than not, it has lactic acid in it, which isn't vegan.  Kikkoman soy sauce is a great vegan option, although not the low-fat, low-sodium version, which also contains lactic acid!

  5. Yes

All it is is Nori, vegetables, rice and vinegar.    If you add fish or fish eggs, it's not vegetarian nor vegan.   Therefore.....All vegetarian sushi is also vegan sushi.

  6. You have to ask.  Japanese restaurants tend to use a fish sauce or a fish stock in virtually everything they serve.  That would definitely not be vegan.

Despite what a previous poster wrote, vegans can eat white rice, but many choose not to because it isn't healthy.

  7. Vegetarian sushi is not necessarily vegan, esp. since vegans do not eat white rice I believe. Also, depending on the sushi base.
