please don't say we are arrogant, this is just a crock of $h!t,i personally i like the fact we have a national comp its made our game greater than it was and more appealing to a bigger audience, but i probably deep down still hate the interstate sides except sydney and brisbane just because they originated in melbourne-i probably feel this way for the fact idon't think there is any love comming this way from over the border/s either.

  1. To tell you the truth I don't really care.  I love watching the footy and I support my team (non victorian).  I don't really think of what states the other teams come from I just hope we beat them for the competition.

If I come across like I hate victoria then I am sorry, it is just because you keep posting these questions and I automatically defend my state!

  2. At the moment and being a Crows supporter, WA is the state I hate the most!  Most Vic teams have no real threats or possess no serious Grand Final contenders at the moment!  So I guess I don't resent any Vic sides at this point in time! (but you never know things could change in a few months time!)

  3. I can remember going back in the mid to late 80's, when S.A was the best in State of Origin games, seeing the great Ted Whitten (RIP) and S.A sports commentator K.G Cunningham going off at each other in the weeks leading up to the big game. I think it was after the 1987 win, as a result of a bet Ted Whitten had to wear a S.A jumper and walk up and down Rundle Mall singing the South Australian song.

This happened every year, and became a Rev up to both sides, giving each team incentives to win. That is one reason why I hated the Victorian press, the league, the supporters they thought and still think they are better than the game itself.

Then theres players like Dermott and co that gave sh*t to S.A supporters, seeing that and hearing what they were saying made me relise that Victorians are nieve and arrogant when it comes to State of Origin footy.Thats why I hate Victoria.

P.S The fact that Victorian commentators and the media always tend to think its the VFL, with a few teams from interstate joining in, It pisses me off. The commentators are so biased, its unbelievable. Especially Tony Shaw, Gerald Healy, all the Ch Carlton commentary (ch 10). Then there's the Herald Sun writers, they think their sh*t don't stink.

  4. I'm afraid that since state of origin ended the state vs state rivalry has faded. As a Victorian I can say that most Victorian supporters tend to hate other Victorian clubs just like crows hate port etc in S.A. Most Victorian supporters really do not care about the recent interstate domination because the quality of the game has improved and its great to watch.

The only hatred from this side of the fence comes when good Victorian players such as Judd get drafted to interstate teams whilst these interstate teams still enjoy getting priority picks in their areas. This will continue to occur unless the number of Victorian clubs is reduced and/ or the AFL changes its rules.

  5. Fair go mate, In Canberra you can support any team you like and no one will put you down for it. We don't hate any team in the comp exept for the Roo's. They bailed from Canberra cause there was more money up at the Gold Coast.

But no matter who you go for its a great game so people should stop paying it out.

  6. Maybe you should sit on a Melbourne train in your Eagles colours on the way to a game and hear what is said to you and about you and your team especially about the fact that Chris Judd plays for us.I don't hate the Victorian sides I like the competition between the states and love the rivalry between sides.I just dont like sour grapes when the best team win whoever they are.

  7. honestly i respect all teams, no matter where they come from. It's all the same country and I enjoy watching games and news about Victorian teams as much as the West Australian teams. I've never hated teams from other states, except the Bombers when I was younger it was just how I was brought up and I had no idea what state Victoria or any other states were so it was based on the team..

Rivalries and hatreds are made from close games between sides - such as West Coats Eagles v Sydney Swans - and media build up - Example Western Derbies and Showdowns and Grand Final rematches.

Really at my school not much is spoken about other states. My friend is an Adelaide supporter and we don't hate each other's states or teams we just don't say anything because we are scared of what the other will say if we lose. Someone else I know is a Kangaroos and Collingwood supporter and no one really cares. But when we get West coast fans against Fremantle fans the rivalry and hatred starts.

The teams fans love to hate are teams that are in the same state or area.

  8. im west australian, i see all the clubs differnt regardless of which state there from. i just dont like the old victorian ex football players on tv. their the ones who insite all the interstate hatred.
