  1. So long as your seen by a qualified professional Optometrist or Medical Doctor who is currently registered to practice and has qualifications in refraction then you will be in good hands wherever you go.

You would need to feel confident in your practitioners ability and feel that he/she has spent enough time and effort in understanding your complaints and in assessing the health of your eyes - in particular the back of your eyes.

Ideally you would like to have a lot of tests performed, but question why if you're not recieving any of these: Your Vision measured at the beginning  and a cover swapped between the eyes a few times to check for squints ("Strabismus"), your prescription for glasses assessed in a variety of ways  (search for "Autorefractor" or "Retinoscopy" and "Subjective refraction"- they should also measure your old specs to let you know if theres been much of a change), you'd also want them to use a "slit lamp" to assess the health of your eyes's surfaces and the lens of the eye etc. - They'll need an extra lens to be held close up to your eye in order to see deep inside the eye -"The retina"

You would ideally also like to have a peripheral vision test performed and a photograph taken of the back of the eye.

All your results should be explained in full and you should be given the opportunity to see the difference / benefit the new specs compared with either your own vision or with your old specs.

You should also get a copy of your prescription so you can choose to purchase your spectacles elsewhere if you wanted to.

WHEN CHOOSING SPECTACLES - look at the frames and get a feel for whether or not you feel they are of a good quality- listen to other people and the sales staff - are there any complaints? - If so how are they addressed? Are the staff pushy? Do you feel confident/ comfortable with their ability and professionalism?

    - If so,  then go to wal-mart in good confidence.

If you feel the examination was lacking or too rushed you can voice your concerns to the professional governing body who will investigate the matter further and advise you whether your concerns are justified or not.

No eye test should take less than 10-15minutes.

  2. Generally, I would say yes. I had a good experience with the store located in Covina, CA. I have moved since.

  3. it really depends on the wal-mart and who is working there.  from personally experience, I've had my eyes examined at wal-mart and my glasses made there with no problems.  However, since the beginning of the year, I've been working at a Costco optometrist office and a lot of the times when one of our patients come in to get their glasses measured to see if they were made correctly and they were in fact NOT, about 90% of the time it's when they went to wal-mart to get them made.  Honestly, it varies from place to place but just be sure to ask them to double check if your glasses were made if you feel that they aren't right and if they are made incorrectly, they should be happy to fix them for you free of charge.  good luck!

  4. I don't know about WalMart being a good place for an eye exam, since I've gotten mine examined at Children's.

However, one year one of my close friends bought glasses there. Couple weeks later there must have been a lot of pressure on one of the lens or something because it popped out and she had to go without them for a while.

So, to sum it up, I wouldn't but glasses there for sure, even though every WalMart is different....who knows? To have my glasses break (I get my glasses form Costco and they've never broken in anyway, even when a ball hit me in the face several times and me bending and rebending again and again) I wouldn't be able to see very much.....

  5. I haven't had an eye exam at Walmart, but I have gotten my glasses/lenses there.  I have hard to make lenses for nearsightedness, astigmatism, and bifocals, but they did an EXCELLENT job and for a great bargain price!  If you aren't satisfied, you have a 100% money back guarantee.  Also, not all eye doctors are the same, nor are the lens makers.  I just went to an opthamologist and got a new prescription, and will be having my new lenses made at Walmart!
