  2. eddied she is asking ,in her own way how many individual steps there are in a walk.the answer is 4.there are 2 to a trot and 3 to a canter.

  3. there are 4 beats in the walk...  the horse takes 4 separate steps rather than moving 2 legs at the same time.  they start with the back right, then front right, then back left, then front left.  that's why when you're riding you feel your hips sway back and forth a little bit... when the horse moves its back leg, it pushes that side of your hip forward a little, then the other side moves...  if you pay attention when you walk, your shoulders kinda move the same way.
