Is/was your mom a cheerleader, or a drill sergeant?

Personally - my mom was neither, but absent - so I'm asking this for my children's benefits. I also think that mom's should be somewhere in between - how about you? What was your experience? How did it effect how you take care of your self and belongings (specifically).

  1. It's best to be a bit of both, but remember, your example is the strongest teacher of all.

  2. My mom was a cheerleader. No, seriously, she was a cheerleader in high school.

As far as her parenting style, however, she was somewhere between the two, but a lot closer to the cheerleader side. She was, and still is (I'm only seventeen, so she still very much takes a parenting role in my life - though I'm pretty much fully raised, she still helps me become a better person everyday) and incredible person and parent. If every kid could have a parent like her, the world would be a better place.

I actually detailed her parenting style in a previous answer, so I'll link to that here.

Pardon the recycled response, but it was a long answer, and it had a lot of good info, so I thought it might be helpful.

  3. I think you should act according to the child's personality and family dynamic. My mom was and is kind of domineering and controlling - but I suppose she had to be with four kids all close in age - and it conflicted with my independent personality. I avoided her for many years in my 20s because I didn't want all that smothering/advice.
