  1. Polar - Water is composed of two hydrogens and one oxygen, oxygen has six valence electrons while each hydrogen has one so the lewis dot structure looks like this: http://www.promotega.org/UGA06004/images...

    There are two pairs of non-bonded electrons on the oxygen and because of the size of their electron cloud, it forces the two hydrogens to bend closer together.  As seen in the picture, the angle between the two hydrogens is roughly 104 degrees as opposed to 180.  The end that has the non-bonded electron pairs is a negative dipole (one collective -2 dipole) and the end with the hydrogens is the positive dipole (2 separate +1 dipoles), the positive and negative ends create the polar abilities of water and hydrogen bonding.


  2. Polar.

    1- Because electronegative between O and H2 are not the same, so the bond is polarized.

    2- Molecule has a dipole moment

    3- Molecule is not symmetric
