Is water polo fun?

Im barely going to enter high school and they offer water polo. Ive heard its fun and a great way to make friends. I talked to my teacher and she said that I shouldnt join water polo cuz its going to give me big muscles and shoulders and since im short (im 5'1'') that i would look funky. but my p.e. teacher said i should try it. any suggestions? why should i or shouldnt i join it? thx! =]

  1. I dont think big muscles and shoulders is any reason to not do it, yeah youll get stronger, but your not going to look funky. I think you should try it, its a lot of fun, and its a great way to make friends, but you need to not be scared of hurting other people, even if they are on your team, i mean dont hurt your teammates, but when your scrimaging or practicing in practice dont be afraid to play mean, becuase people on the opposite team will have no feelings for you. I think it would be a great way to try a sport you probably havnt tried yet, but it can get rough out there, and it takes a lot of motivation and determination, but dont let that stop you.   2. You definatly should try water polo! Water polo is an amazing sport, that  is a lot of fun and you will meet some of your best friends there. But don't get me wrong water polo is a hard sport probably one of the hardest to compete in. Your new guns and large shoulders wont make you look funky, you will be very well built. I would reccommend pre-season training including- running, swimmming, stairs, squats, weight lifting, and if you have access to a pool practice treading water.

    I really hope you decide to go out for the team.

  4. It's really fun, but you have to be pretty tough to play.  Waterpolo is really intense and can be a bit violent.

  5. YES!!! you should definately do it! it gets you in great shape and its great cardio and strengthening

  6. Water polo is a really fun game to play. You will get in shape for sure. The guys are going to be all over you.

  7. That's not a very nice thing for your teacher to say. Your shoulders might get bigger than they would have been, but your body won't let your shoulders get so big that they look "funky."  

    I've never played on a water polo team, but we played water polo several times a season on my swim team. Like others said, it gets pretty intense. Especially on a real water polo team. It's a great workout though and combines my two favorite sports (swimming and soccer). I say go for it.

  8. You should definitely give water polo a try. My 13 year old son is currently learning to play water polo.  He is really enjoying himself. It does help if you are a pretty good swimmer. It is a physically demandng sport. My son enjoys playing a team sport. He has been involved in competitive swimming so enjoys being part of a team. It is a great sport to get in shape.It will not cause you to have big muscles and shoulders. It is also a sport you can feel successful at fairly quickly. Try it and have fun!
