Question:

Is wearing a hat not professional dress attire?

My husband claims he cannot wear a hat throughout the day because it makes him look unprofessional. This is the most preposterous thing I have heard and I cannot convince him otherwise. He is outdoors all day for work and comes home with sun induced headaches. How do I make him change his ill conceived belief about professional dress attire?

  1. Well if he was working in an office I could see how that would be unprofessional but knowing that he's working outdoors all day there's nothing wrong with wearing a hat. You cant exactly make him wear a hat but drinking lots and lots and looooots of water will help with the headaches a bit.

  2. maybe he just doesn't want to wear a hat, and he is using an excuse.

  3. A hat is only unprofessional indoors.  If he has an outdoor job, I would consider it completely normal and professional to protect himself from the sun.  It doesn't have to be a ratty ball cap, you can find both ball caps and other styles that aren't quite as casual if he's worried about looking scruffy.

  4. Virtually every golfer wears a hat at their outdoor job.  It should be expected in most cases.  I cannot imagine any situation that would not require one.

  5. well it completely fine as long as it fits (baseball hat + suit and tie = not good) but try to find hats that fit the attire.
