Is welding fins on my car illegal?

Question

I have a crappy old Toyota that all my friends right/paint on (inside and out) so i figured the next step is to add some fins on the back trunk like the old bat mobile, but smaller. Any suggestions, or comments whether i will be pulled over by the police or not?

Nope its not illegal. because cars back in the days kinda had the same look.

I think this is something you need to check in with your motor vehicle registration  or your local PD. It may vary from state to state. Like tinted windows in some state are different than others.

I am a Police Officer for a city in Arkansas.  And there is nothing in our statute book that says you can't modify your car.  You can do what you want with your car just as long as it can be operated safely on the roadways.  Make sure that your taillights and signals are not blocked in any way.  I would also make sure that you do not obstruct your rear view mirrors.  It sounds like you want to keep the fins on a smaller scale, so you should be ok.  Now listen up to this though..... Even though the Police do not have a legal right to pull you over for the fins, they can still find other things like driving left of center or right of roadway... The police will use this legal tactic so they can investigate who is driving..... You, being a younger person and probably having younger people in your car....along with a funky painted and welded car will look pretty tempting to the police.  They will suspect possible pot smokers or alcohol drinking and will probably find a reason to stop you..   In that case, just be friendly and give them your Driver's License, registration and insurance.  After they check you out and find that you are harmless, they will let you go. Then they will remember your funky car and probably not pull you over again. :-)  I do this stuff all the time!
