My friend is on public assistance and she said that they put $1200 on her cash account. Has this happened to anybody else?

She told me that is like a tax rebate.

  1. That's what welfare is - giving out money.  The amount she got has nothing to do with the tax stimulus program.

  2. Welfare is stealing from the haves and giving to the have-nots.

A tax rebate would be a rebate from taxes you paid into the government. If you don't pay in you don't get a rebate. But you may get a gift.

  3. No, money that is received from public assistance does qualify as income, so unless she is also working, she does qualify for a stimulus payment.  The $1200 is probably her cash assistance payment, especially if she just got on the program.  They usually give you 2-3 months worth of payments at once at the onset, depending on how long the application process took.  Hope this helps.
