I want to know since I have a 2 month old black kitten (I said her color just for the h**l of it) and I want to know if it will be the same price of getting dry cat food if I get wet cat food? Cause since she's a kitten, she wont finish it all in one sitting, and the cans are usually one meal so i would have to buy like 30 at a time.

Also, I'm wondering if my kitten doesn't finish it all in a day.. what can i do so it doesnt spoil? and are there any wet cat food thats not in a can?

  1. If you don't count vet bills, ry is cheaper.

Wet food can be left out all day. They can eat it when it hardens.

If you want, you can add a few spoons of water to it and mix. It would look as good as new

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms

The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process.  Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in

Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all.    The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all.

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies  whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp...

    Please read about cat nutrition.

Vetinarian diets  The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza.  http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04...

  2. Cans are usually more expensive, the cans we get for our 3 month old kitten could feed him 3 times a day, and if yours doesn't eat much you can buy lids that you cover the can with so you can carry on using it, thats what we did. :)

  3. canned food is much better for your cats so its worth spending the extra money.

  4. It's true that you will pay more up front for canned food.  There's just no getting around that.  But it's worth it.

If that's a real problem for you and there's just no way your budget will stretch that far, there's a couple of things you can do.

One would be to buy a less expensive canned food such as Fancy Feast or whatever is available in the grocery store, and rotate that with a better canned food such as Evo or Wellness.

Another would be to offer some dry food.  You could go as high as half and half.  You could feed wet at one meal and dry at another or offer some of both at each meal (just don't mix them together, serve separately).

The only other container I've seen wet food come in is pouches.  A can can typically last up to 2 days unrefrigerated so long as your house isn't a hot box and it isn't sitting in the sun.  But sticking it in the fridge is a better idea.  Not all cats have a problem eating cold food.  If yours does you can put it in a different container and run it under some warm water before serving (in the container of course).  Or heck, add some warm water to it.  Extra water is always a good thing!

  5. My cat and kitten get both wet and dry food. I give them Meow Mix indoor formula (dry food) that costs about 5 dollars for a bag. That feeds them for about a month. The get Meow Mix wet food every day, also. Which are between 48 and 99 cents a cup. It really depends on the brand of food you want to feed your cat. I don't believe more expensive is necessarily better for them, so keep that in mind. Meow mix has at least two kinds of wet food that come in plastic cups, my cats LOVE them! Whiskas sells wet foods that come in a pouch.

With either canned food or wet food in a plastic cup, if my cats don't finish  it- leave the uneaten portion in the can or cup, put it in a ziploc bag, and put it in the fridge for later. It'll last a day or two. Sometimes at grocery stores (on the pet aisle) or at the pet store, there are plastic lids they sell for cheap. They fit right over the top of the can - that way you don't have to worry about your plastic bag supply!
