  1. wet tail is HIGHLY contagious!!! Keep the hamsters seperate from now on. You may want to go ahead and just buy the medicine at the pet store now, because your little guy probably has it. (Wet Tail Drops works well)

  2. Yes, it's contagious. If your hammy isn't acting weird, then i'd go buy some dry tail, but if you notice it being sick, quickly, go to a vet.

  3. Yes, It is really really contagious... like if you had a hamster, and it died of wet tail, and you got another hamser and put it in the cage without cleaning it, the new hamster would get wet tail

  4. Yes, wet tail is highly contagious. You can go to the vet or to a pet supply store to get medication for it. It can be very deadly.

Most hamsters should not be housed together (with the exception of dwarf hamsters), but even if two hamsters are housed separately it can be contagious. Putting your hamsters into different rooms with separate supplies (bedding, food, etc.) is a good idea.

And make sure to wash your hands after handling a hamster infected with wet tail, regardless of whether or not you will be handling a healthy hamster after.

  5. I would call the vet and ask if they can give you the meds just in case.  It is extremely contagious

  6. It is very contagious, because it's a bacterial disease, and they spread among others fast.

Better get it checked out by a vet before they get the disease.

For now, clean out their cage thoroughly and disinfect it...change all the food and water (clean the bottle and the bowl)

Wet tail could be treated if treated on time...it is difficult to treat if you take to the vet late and this disease is very dangerous and a very few hamsters survive from it.

So, consultation with your vet is a must.

Don't worry about the money...so what if they are little? They are still precious bundles of joy.

I wish you and your hammies all the very best.

  7. Yes wet tail is a bacterial infection and is highly contagious to other hamsters who have been in contact with the diseased hamster. The symptoms take 7-8 days to appear, so keep a close watch on your hamsters for the next week. Just look out for signs of lethargy and a bad smelling abnormal p**p or diarrhea. You can prevent wet tail by using medications like Dri Tail but once the diarrhea starts happening, you should only take them to a vet for antibiotics.

However wet tail is infectious to mostly young hamsters or hamsters whose immunity is low. So there is a probability that your hamsters may not have it if they have very good immunity.

  8. wet tail is highly contagess
