  1. White gold is real gold plus some alloy, usually nickel.  So use some common sense.  Would you rather have an ounce of gold all by itself, or half an ounce of gold and half an ounce of nickel, all melted up and mixed together?  Of course you'd rather have the pure gold.  It's worth about twice as much.

    One caveat, though.  Once in a while you find white gold made with palladium, especially for women who have skin allergies to nickel.  Palladium, believe it or not, is worth far more than gold.  So in THAT case, yes, you actually would prefer the white gold.
