Is wi-fi gaming possible on two laptops?

ive got many multiplayer games on my laptop. i want to play it with my friend who has a laptop with wi-fi too. is it possible to connect two laptops by wi-fi to play mulitplayer games?

  1. It is possible. The wifi should use an ad-hoc connections or an access point. Also, multiplayer games usually work on a client/server model with a server program that coordinates messages between the clients and maintains the status of the game scenario. You will need one copy of the server program running  on only one laptop. The client programs handles the graphics rendering, sound, and controller input. each laptop should run a client.


  2. if their is a router the router will connect you to your network

    if no router set up a peer to peer connection between the two computers

  3. Technically, this is possible, it would be like setting up for a LAN party. Having said that, unless you're attempting to use games that are not very graphics-intensive, you will have significant lag. You will be far better off using Ethernet with either a switch or a router.
