The will is part of mind.  There are two sides to mind.  These are represented by the right- and left-brain, though they don't come from the brain as such.  The left-brain side of the mind is the will.  It's the rational, logical, masculine side of the mind, the side that differentiates between things.  The other side is the connection to the body and emotions.  It is the seat of memory, the feeling, feminine side that sees relationships between things.

    The will, by itself, is just the power to animate.  WHAT it animates is the province of the other part of the mind.  So it is the right side that is more the reflection of the self; it holds the memory and the connection to emotions, perception and bodily experience that make a person unique.  It's not the will itself but what forms the content of what's willed that is a reflection of the self, and that is found in and through the right-brain side of the mind.
