I work at least 50 to 70 hours a week. I don't go out much and people my age (21) all they think about is party party party. But not me I want to get to a positon where I feel financially secure but my friends say I work way too much and way too hard for someone my age. They say I'm going to stress myself out and before I know it I'll be old. thats when I tell them I have to get back to work. So I guess my question is am i working to hard? I go out about once a month but I want to focus on my career first before I go all wild and have fun? I'm confused should I not focus too hard on my career and enjoy life or enjoy life and let chance take charge of my career.

  1. Being financially secure and sorting your career out when you are young is a good idea.

So long as you do still have friends, interests outside of work, and importantly the hours you work do not effect your health.

My wife died when I was 33 and I threw my self at work to be able to cope, I was working 60 to 76+ hours a week and got to the point where I felt permanently jet lagged and genuinely had no idea what day of the week it was, I lost contact with all but 2 or 3 of my friends and am now finding it hard to reconnect socially. It didn't help that I gambled away all my overtime pay. Yes you can get by and be happy with little money but it is a lot easier if you have it.

    Just keep a balance

  2. Unless you work for the Jesus it's all wrong.

  3. It's good to be financially secure but these young years don't last long and will never come again. You may look back at what you may have missed with regret some day. Also, the pattern your setting for yourself is one that will probably last a lifetime. You won't suddenly turn into a party animal once you've achieved 'security'; you'll keep on working. Now look at someone like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates, they're fabulously wealthy, but they still work long days, why? Because that's what they want to do, that's their 'fun'. It may be that you're destined for that kind of life. Although I'd be curious if people like that, who can never make enough money, are ever truly happy.
