Is writing a cover letter mandatory? ?

Im applying for alot of jobs on craiglist today . I have my resume written out but no cover letter. Arent cover letters written after you met the employer to thank them for the meeting? Are there any sites that offer free cover letters? I tried google but...

a cover letter is good but not mandatory, a cover letter introduces urself and references the comapny and job that ur applying for, more personal history is detailed in the resume

have a cover letter....put who your sennding it to,,,thank them for looking at it,,,,how to reach you [several ways] phone,e mail,,streed address...

Cover letters should be handed in on top of your resume. Just be sure that it is not to similar to your actual resume.

Not mandatory, but certainly a good idea.  You can write a basic cover letter, then tailor it for each job you are applying for - don't have to write one from scratch each time.

The letter you send AFTER an interview is a thank you letter not a cover letter.
