Question:

Is yahoo answers really about the best responses to the questions or is there another agenda?

I am concerned that some people are voting for best answers in a partisan manor, and not on the merits of the issues. This is having a negative effect on the participation of some users who do not have a network of yahoo buddies. Can we please vote for best answers and NOT the most familiar ones!

  1. no yahoo answers is definitely not about getting the best answers to your questions. i agree with you maybe there is another agenda

  2. If you want the best and serious answers to question you are better to use Usenet groups or dedicated forums.

As you have realised, many people come here for entertainment rather than to assist.

    .

  3. I slightly agree with Chris, but i know why i come on here and that is to try and give good advice, i agree that some times i feel my answer was better than the top one but its up to the person who posed the question's conscious to live with that decision.

I'm not bitter, are you ?

  4. I've had eight best answers in the last three days, and a few grateful comments, and am not part of any network.

Yahoo Answers is not just about the questions it is also about entertainment, and hopefully even the trolls may learn a thing or two.

    Lighten up!

  5. I don't have any yahoo buddies and still get a good few 'Best Answer'.

If I can't decide which answer to my question is best, I vote for the person who has the least points.

  6. I expect you have, or will, find that there are two main types of participants on Yahoo Q & A's.

There is a group of abusive 'trolls' and multiple account holders who do appear to support each other regardless of merit and, in my own opinion spoil what could be a useful forum .. however as one response has already indicated .. that perhaps we more seriously inclined types should 'lighten up' and not bother. I do not see either group changing the others point of view.

Yahoo itself is frequently criticised in the various forums but doesn't seem to want to change things .. as you may have noticed for example a 'top contributor' is judged on quantity of answers and not quality, also many of the community guidlines seem to be ignored .. so be it, it's their ball.

Us more seriously minded types get 'thumbs down' as a matter of course, like being insulted by someone who hides behind their anonymity and in a worst case I will just sometimes delete my answer .. on balance, and my profile is open and not so far made private.. I feel I have contributed something worthwhile and when I log off have left the world a little better than when I picked up my 'pen'. The thanks of someone I will never meet is sufficient and makes it worthwhile.

You have used some analogies yourself, can I add some more, I'm a UK blood donor .. I will never know the recipients,or get or expect to be paid. Some of the patients may be drifters & bums but I still do it. From time to time I'm a soft touch for a few coins .. will that person just get another bottle or do I, must I,  take that chance rather than refusing to help a genuine need from someone whose life hit rock bottom.

Perhaps you'll reconsider and stay .. you appear to have something worthwhile yourself to offer.

  7. I agree some people on here have their own agendas!

PS - I think you meant "manner"

  8. Sure?

    What other agenda?

    With Freedom of speech?

    When "You ask for it"

Why pull down the pants and bare the backsides?

In front of little children with self lack of knowledge in time.

    What do you think?
