Is your cat a familiar?

How can you tell a familiar from a pet?

No, both my cats are just *******.  One keeps climbing the screen door and the other keeps eating and then puking up foreign objects.

My husband and his cat have a unique relationship. She knows when he's coming home, she'll sit by the door and meow. She'll sit on his lap and look adoringly at him, and if she's lying by him and I come into the room she gives my her best hateful glare, as if to say "he's mine!"

But he and the cat do not exchange bodies, he does not turn into a cat.  So no, she's not his familiar. Even if she is black.

Neither of my cats are. They are barely pets, more like friends and foundlings

Depends what definition of familiar you are referring to.

He is my friend or acquaintance, but I don't believe he has a soul.

I rescued a little black female cat nearly two years ago just before Halloween.  It was love at first sight.  I named her Raven.  

I have another cat, Alex a ginger tom who is a law onto himself.  But Raven, is a mama's girl.  We have a very special bond and that makes her all the more special to me.

But she is just my little feline buddy, not a familiar.
