She's not afraid of thunder, fireworks, or strangers, but when she see's even just a spec of a hot air balloon in the sky, she runs and hides, and keeps looking up in fear. It's weird, it's not like they're right on top of us. Is anyone else's dog afraid of hot air balloons? What do they do when they see them?

  1. I don't think my dog has ever even seen a hot air balloon.

Heck, I've only seen one like once in my life.

    So, I dunno =|

  2. We never see hot air balloons in our area, but once my dog was out back barking like mad at something. I went out and saw it was a plastic grocery bag stuck in the shrubbery a couple of houses away. It was very suspicious to him, I guess the way the wind moved it made it appear to be a living creature...My dog is an APBT and they are always alert to whether or not things are ok.  Sometimes on our walks we'd come upon a discarded plastic bag, too, and he'd react.  So I let him investigate and after a few times he didn't pay much attention to them anymore. I don't know how you'd desensitize a dog to hot air balloons.

Edit: I attended a U.S. Hot Air Balloon Championship once when it was hosted about 100 miles from where I live. Other than that I've rarely seen them.
