Is your dog protective? Yes or no?

If yes is it protective of only you and your family like some dogs are or does it protect your property and automobile also? Will it only bark or growl or will it do more than that? What breed? You can also share personal experiences of when your dog protected you, your family or chased away a burglar from your home, etc.

  1. 3 out of my 4 dogs like to bark when they think they hear someone unknown to them. The weirdest being a Pug.

  2. yes

  3. My dog is very protective of my property. My cars are parked inside a locked gate and my dog has access to them and the back yard. He is very friendly with people and loves for them to pet him over the fence but if anyone tries to come over the fence he puts on a huge barking snarling show. He also barks when someone comes to the front door even though  he can't see the front door.

The first time I saw dogs of his breed which is a Catahoula was in Louisiana. I went to see a man in the country and he had a picket fence around his house. I asked if I could pet his dogs and he agreed. They loved the petting but when he invited me to come in the house they latched onto my legs. One had his mouth around the calf of my leg and one had his mouth around the thigh of my leg and when I tried to move they growled. He finally got them off of me. They didn't hurt me or my clothes. This is typical behavior of Catahoulas. I can't imagine mine hurting anyone. He is such a wuss, but he can scare people that don't know him.

  16. My German Shepherd was very protective, even when going for walks, he'd put himself between me and any person we come across, he would bark and growl at anyone trying to get in the gate unless he was told "it's ok".

My medium-large mixed breed (Australian cattle dog, bull mastiff, shepherd, retriever; it's all in his bloodline) 9month old puppy is very protective, he'll bark and growl at the Dingoes that come past our backyard, and he'll growl at anyone who gets too close to the person taking him for a walk, and he'll bark at any dog who seems like they want to bite you. He also protects me from my kitten (who launches attacks on my legs), he'll come up to him and start playing with him if I yell "ow" (he's very VERY gentle when playing with my kitten though - it's adorable to watch). Also I had him over at my boyfriends house for a couple of nights and he was protecting his property as well.

The english staffy we have is not protective - she'll just roll over and ask for a pat - unless it's a dog, then she'll try to tear it apart (unless it's a puppy less than 6 months old).
