Is £1000 enought to move to spain?

hi im owen im 19 thinking of moving to spain ,to do a bit of bar or reastraunt work, were do i start, do i just go out and loook, the intrenet is rubbish, plz right back i just want move its my destiney

It is enough to get you started but only if you find work straight away, I live in Spain and when I first moved here I came over with about £6000 as I wanted to have a few months to sort myself out and find an apt and a half decent job. I have lived out here for 3 years now and it is a good way of life, if you are prepared to work hard. If you are serious about moving over here, you need to think about moving somewhere, where the resort is open all season, e.g Benidorm, etc. The best time to look for work is the end of March/beginning of April, but be aware lots of other people come out this time of year also to look for work and there are also the workers who live here all year round, so there is alot of competition. One last thing if you do come out buy the local weekly Spanish paper there are always lots of jobs in there, and just go round the different bars and restaurants, and leave your name and number, cause people do get back to you, anyway good luck , adios amigo!!!

Your destiney is already planned for you mate!! YOu will do what you do, whether you go there tomorrow and try and start a fresh, or whether you research it then go. Its gonna happen if its gonna happen. Just make sure you know you ahve somewhere to stay and a job to go to. Then yeah,i would say you have enough and you can do whatever you want. Youare my age. Defitely NOT. GBP 1,000 will last you a month. Accommodation is expensive, even if you share. You will need to find a job PDQ and wages are around UK minimum level. Quite frankly, I don't know how the Spanish manage !

The local 'Ayuntamientos' (town halls) do have job centres. Maybe worth taking a "cheapie" holiday to get the lay of the land. Essential to speak spanish if you wish to succeed. As a matter of interest, social security here costs euro 244/month; that makes you legal. But alcohol & cigarettes are cheap !

Learn a bit of spanish first. It's a nice place. Join the youth hostels association to get cheap accommodation. Go off the beaten track. Avoid the english yobbos who spoil places. Keep a bit of money for just in case you decide to come home.

Hi,

Ok, yes you can get there and live for a few weeks while you find some bar work or a job in a hostel...but choose a city where there are lot's of English tourists, or Englsih students such as Madrid, Barcelona, Salamanca (my recommendation) or perhaps Granada in the south...

but £1000 isn't much, be aware of that!

You can live staying in hostels and eating cheap (from supermarkets that you cook for yourself) for about 5 weeks max on £1000 - that's assuming the hostel is £10 a night * 3 = £30 is your daily cost, * 30 is your montly cost of £900 ... so bear that in mind...

You will need to get sorted in a city like Barcelona, Madrid, or Salamanca (where there are lot's of English speaking students and tourists) and get sorted quick...

first, get a cheap flight with Ryanair or Easyjet or Vueling through Skyscanner.Net) for about £50 return.

Then for your accomodation, stay in hostels for £12 a night to keep costs down while searching for bar work, or hopefully the hostels will let you work there to pay for your bed...

But it's a risk...with such a small amount of money.

Make sure you have your Form E111 form or card so you can get free medical treatment ....

make sure you have insurance ok...

I live in Benidorm and think that you had better look for a friend to come with you, it cuts down on costs, i.e accomodation etc. You will need to go into every bar/restaurant in Benidorm and just ask, maybe you will be lucky. Spanish bars won't be interested but there are plenty of Brit bars where they might employ you washing up or proping..(which is trying to entice people to go into the bar you work for) the pay won't be much but at least you will be in a different place than the UK. Don't think it's all drink, sunbathing and having a good time, there is hard work, sometimes fights in the streets from drunk Brits and drugs are easily bought. If you use your head and be a sensible lad you should be ok.Like someone else said the best time to come is just before the beginning of the season around April. Just keep your options open and have your parents available to send you money to fly home if things don't work out. Good luck son, enjoy yourself while you're young.

I felt the same and I moved over here when my daughter was 5 (7 years ago) and I only had £300 pounds and a tent. By the time I got to Gibraltar I only had 12 pounds left (still had the tent though) We have just bought a house now and I have the job I have always wanted. I won't say it was easy but it is possible to acheive your dream. Go for it cos the longer the think about it the more reasons you find not to do it. Gibraltar people speak english so it could be an idea to start job hunting there if you don't know spanish. Most people tend to live in spain as the cost of living is cheaper and work in Gibraltar cos the pay is good. Good luck

If you go to hotspots like Benidorm, Salou etc then you shouldn't have much problem getting bar/restaurant work and there's always plenty of rental accomodation in these places.

It depends if you are coming over here permanently or just for the season.  As other people have said it wont be easy, and if you can find someone to come with to share the cost of accommodation then it will be cheaper.  At first you need to head someone where there are lots of English people to find work... unless you speak fluent Spanish?

If you just want to work over here for a season then the best time to come is the end of March beginning of April and go round the English bars base yourself somewhere touristy.. Barcelona, Benidorm, Malaga, Ibiza, Mallorca somewhere that there is plenty of work for English speakers.

There will be a lot of competition so be persistent and remember everyone that comes over here looking for bar work is/was a bar manager at home.  Make sure you save a little money in case everything goes wrong and also when looking for jobs you want to be employed legally as then you are covered for health care etc.

If you are looking at moving here permanently then 1k is prob not enough, however if you want it badly enough you will find a way.  Good Luck I hope it works for you.

That wont even get your belongings here, it wont rent you anywhere either.....its too little to consider as an amount to move country on.....you will need to be able to fully support yourslef for however long it takes to find a job, and if you become ill, you will ahve to pay for that, as not everything is covered on the EHIC, and that can only be used for a max of three months if you are intending to stay, it is really not enough, best idea is to stay in the Uk, with family and work for another year, and accumulate at least 5k, then think about it again....

u need to keep saving up and then get some help from family and friends to point you in the right direction. there may be a recruitment agency for jobs abroad and then if something comes up they may be able to help you with accommodation. That could be the way forward. Def don't try to go without getting job and accommodation sorted out first. Good luck

you are stealing my dream! i'm only 17 but that's what i want to do next year. take a gap year and move out to spain for the year. i think it will do but you'd need to get a job first. as for the internet being "terrible" why not look up the place you're looking to move to and then check out the surroundings. then if your really serious about it ring some places up that are in the area to see if there are any jobs going. a friend of a friend did that and he's going out in the summer for a few months. so he has a plan. don't just jump in unprepared. good luck mate;)
