Isa Nacewa not interested in playing for Fiji in 2011 Rugby World Cup - Rugby News
Former Fijian player, Isa Nacewa, is not interested in joining the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) in the forthcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup. He has turned down a generous offer from the FRU, which is already facing a crisis in its team selection. The fullback is currently playing for Leinster and is in a good nick for his club.
Isa Nacewa, made his international debut in 2003 for Fiji and then shifted towards the New Zealand Barbarians in 2004 with just a single international contest under his belt. Afterwards, he parted ways from the NZ Barbarians and joined the Barbarians in 2009 and earned 15 points in just two games. Nacewa has also played for the Blues in Super Rugby seasons for at least four years. His performance with the Blues remained extraordinary as he accumulated 208 of points for the derby.
Fiji Rugby Union has been restricted by New Zealand to include only non-military related players in their national side for the largest event of rugby this year. New Zealand had banned military or military related people to travel to its territory since the military coup in Fiji in 2006.
Talking to media, Isa Nacewa said that it was not an easy decision to turn down the offer by FRU but he has to look after his family. He added that, “My pregnant wife and my twin girls are my number one priority at the moment, however I wish the Fiji team and management all the best in the exciting year that follows and especially at the Rugby World Cup”.
Fijian coach, Sam Domoni, applauded the decision of Nacewa and said that his family needs his attention at this stage. He added “Players, like Nacewa need to look after their young family's welfare and that's a priority for any player”.
He further said that Fiji has got depth in its squad and will give their opponents a tough time in the world showpiece. Fiji remained impressive during the previous RWC 2007 and qualified for the quarter-final stages.
