Isaac Chilemba takes on undefeated Zsolt Erdei in a 10-round non-title bout – Boxing News
Isaac Chilemba, the WBC International light heavyweight champion, is scheduled to collide with the returning Hungarian proud Zsolt Erdei, the former WBO light heavyweight champion, in a 10-round non-title bout which will be held on September 29, 2012.
The duo will take on each other on the fight card headlined by the non-title 10-round much anticipated bout between Edwin Rodriguez and Jason Escalera. The showdown will also witness Luis Orlando Del Valle collide with Vic Darchinyan in a non-title 10-round
featherweight bout, co-headlining the event.
‘Road to Glory’ pay-per-view is being organised and promoted by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment and will be broadcasted live from Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut, United States.
Isaac and Zsolt recently participated in the teleconference called on to announce the high-profile pay-per-view. Isaac, 25, the only Malawi boxer in the division has worked extremely hard to secure sixth place in the World Boxing Organisation’s rankings.
Chilemba, also known as ‘The Golden Boy’, has been in a total of 21 bouts, boasting 19 wins and just one loss. The young orthodox lad has pinned nine of his opponents via knockout and is coming off a pretty impressive unanimous decision win over Edison Miranda.
During the conference, Isaac stated, “I’m really looking forward to this fight. This is a fight that I have been waiting for all my life. I’m looking forward to showcasing my ability against someone like Zsolt Erdei, who is undefeated in 33 fights and is
a former two-time world champion.”
His Saturday night opponent, Zsolt, is making a comeback after almost a year gap. The 38-year-old has been in a total of 33 bouts, boasting an undefeated streak. Erdei has never lost even a single bout and has nailed 18 of his opponents via knockout.
As far as the stats and technicalities are concerned, Zsolt has a clear upper hand over Isaac. The Hungarian proud, also known as ‘Madar’ or ‘Firebird’, while sharing his thoughts commented, “Last time I fought was a year ago. I missed a fight in December
because of my injury and I am very hungry to be in the ring again and I am very excited. I feel very strong and I feel 100 percent. I thank DiBella Entertainment and HBO for this fight.”
Isaac has built himself quite an impressive resume and because of his recent performances against hefty names is being regarded as the odd-makers favourite. As far as Zsolt is concerned, nailing Isaac is definitely an uphill task but if he defies all odds
and grabs a win he would definitely jump up directly in the title contention scenario.
