Isaac Chilemba to face his career’s toughest opponent Edison Miranda – Boxing news
Isaac Chilemba, world number 9 light heavyweight and the current owner of two championship belts in two different divisions, will take on a pugilist who is far more experienced than him, Edison Miranda, in a bout which will be televised by ESPN.
The fight is scheduled to take place on Friday February 3, 2012.
ESPN, Warriors Boxing, and Sampson Boxing are jointly organising the event ‘ESPN and Warriors Friday Night Professional Boxing’ which will be headlined by the epic bout between Miranda and Chilemba.
Isaac, 24, is the only Malawi pounder in the whole boxing world who has brought much respect to his homeland by his startling performance and illustrious success. Chilemba, infamous as the Golden Boy, has in just 20 bouts secured not only the IBO belt in
super middleweight division but also the WBC International title in light heavyweight division.
Malawi’s Golden Boy has won 18 of his total bouts and has lost just one brawl against Willbeforce Shihepo, a 6-round clash that he lost on point basis. The orthodox brawler is famous for his resilience. Isaac takes his opponent to the last second of the
last round and never submits whether how hard the opponents punches him or bashes him he absorbs all the punishment and pain inflicted on him.
It is this reason why this bout is being considered a turning point in the young man’s career since his opponent is not a simple brawler but a knockout specialist. Miranda, nicknamed as the Pantera, has taken on 41 opponents. Out of all those men only six
were able to overcome the Puerto Rican. He collected 30 of his wins by knocking out the challenger out cold. The knock out percentage of the 31-year-old born-pugilist is 73.17% as compared to Golden Boy’s 45%, a huge difference.
Isaac is definitely facing a tough and huge competition this time. He not only has to prove that he is worthy of holding the titles but will also test his resilience altogether at a new level. It must be kept in mind that Miranda secures 10th position in
world rankings just after Isaac hence not much difference as far as the points are concerned.
Isaac substantially lacks in two aspects the experience and knockout proficiency whereas Miranda overshadows the young Goldie in both these facets. The bout will take place at Dallas Events Center situated in Texas Station Gambling Hall and Hotel. ESPN has
definitely come up with a collision which will certainly cheer and energise the boxing fanatics both in the arena and at home.
