Isabel Herttrich – Inken Wienefeld clinch Women’s Doubles crown at Slovenia International 2012
Germany’s Isabel Herttrich and Inken Wienefeld stole the limelight as they clinched Women’s Doubles title at the FZ Forza Slovenia International 2012 at Medvode, Slovenia, on Sunday, May 13.
In the title match, the German shuttlers defeated their higher ranked opponents Sarah Thomas and Carissa Turner of Wales in a fantastic rubber-set fight.
Isabel and Inken, who were seeded at number 2 in Women’s Doubles draw of the event, showed their gutsy performance and overpowered the top seeded Sarah and Carissa in an inspiring fashion.
The second seeded German shuttlers were on a different level and proved their superiority in the court while working hard for 49 minutes.
On the other hand, Sarah and Carissa played competitive badminton and also won the second set. However, they failed to prove their worth in ending points of third game and lost the title match with a decent margin.
In the opening game, Isabel and Inken started their campaign in a positive and dominating manner and remained ahead on the board until the one-minute break in the first set.
After the mid-game interval, Isabel and Inken continued their impressive performance against their higher ranked opponents and managed to win the first set of this final contest with a remarkable 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, the top seeded Sarah and Carissa played better badminton by changing their strategy as they did not let their lower ranked German opponents to take charge of rallies this time.
Until the mid-game break in this Women’s Doubles second set, the top seeds were sailing smoothly ahead of their rivals on the board.
After the break, Isabel and Inken tried to catch up but failed to play positive badminton. They lost the second set with a one-sided score of 13-21.
In the decider, both pairs showed their elite class by playing positive and planned badminton and remained close until the mid-game interval.
However, Isabel and Inken took over the control in the concluding half of final set. They worked really well at this stage and bagged the game with a 21-17 margin on the board.
Isabel and Inken emerged as title winners as they won the final battle with a difference of 21-14, 13-21 and 21-17.
