Ishant, Akmal fined for verbal face-off in 1st T20 – Cricket News Update
Indian pace bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 have been fined for their verbal face-off in the closing stages of the Pakistan innings in the first T20 International between the archrivals in Bangalore on Tuesday, December 25, 2012.
The players had been involved in a heated argument in the 18th over of a successful chase from Pakistan, which afforded them a five-wicket win and an unassailable one-nil lead in the two-match series. The two got into a squabble when Akmal was beaten facing Sharma soon after the gangling http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 caught of a ball that was deemed too high to be legal.
Whilst the visiting gloveman was penalised five per cent of his match fee, after pleading guilty to breaches of Article 2.1.8 of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Code of Conduct – which relates to the actions 'contrary to the spirit of the game' – Sharma had to forgo 15 per cent of his fixture fee.
Sharma, though pleading guilty to the charge, appealed against the penalty and a hearing was held. After reviewing the evidence and the video footage, the match referee reiterated his view that the Indian seamer had initiated the altercation, which was reported by all four umpires. Therefore a penalty of 15 per cent of his match fee was imposed on the gangling Delhi paceman.
"This is clearly a high profile and high intensity series and the players on both sides have been reminded of their responsibility. Both players recognised their duty to set the right type of example through their on-field behaviour and they have accepted that they fell short of the level of conduct required," said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Roshan-Siriwardene-Mahanama-c86863 of the ICC Elite Panel of Referees in an official statement on Wednesday.
"The game was played in the true spirit till this incident was initiated by Ishant, who is an experienced cricketer, which led to the umpires and his team-mates having to intervene," insisted the 46-year-old former Sri Lankan cricketer.
The second and final T20 International of the series will be played in Ahmedabad tomorrow. The two-T20 series will be followed by three One Day Internationals between December 30 and January 6, 2013.
