http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566 rules himself out of India’s ODI tour of Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
Upon returning from a stint at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, recuperating Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has claimed that it will take him 2-3 months more to regain his fitness following an ankle surgery, and as a result, he will not be playing in the Men In Blue’s upcoming ODI tour of Sri Lanka.
“I'm feeling strong and good again and even started to bowl four-over spells. However, it will be difficult to get fully fit in time for next month's tour to Sri Lanka,” said Ishant.
“Intensity of bowling and fitness has to increase gradually and I would also need some match practice to check myself. I think I will take two or three months more to regain match fitness.”
The lanky pacer made his international debut in 2007, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in Dhaka, and has since gone on to play a total of 45 Tests (with 133 wickets) and 47 ODIs (with 64 scalps) for the national side.
Hailed as one of India’s most promising pace prospects, Sharma impressed with performances in tournaments such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 a year ago.
However, the 23-year-old’s career had been hampered of late owing to fitness concerns. An extra growth in the bone of his right ankle led to complications, and the young pacer finally opted for surgery from London in March this year, after playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in January this year.
“... surgery was the best option if I had to play for a long time. The key was to be fit in time for the new season and my rehab is progressing well,” he said, adding that he would be returning to the NCA next week.
The surgery and subsequent recuperation led the right-armer to miss the 2012 edition of the IPL, and he will also be absent from the Indian line-up as the Men In Blue prepare to take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 for a 5-match ODI series which begins on July 22.
