Deccan Chargers’ paceman, Ishant Sharma has termed bowling consistently in right areas as the prime reason of his success in the Indian Premier League game against Kochi Tuskers Kerala, on Wednesday, April 27, 2011.
Deccan Chargers crushed Mahela Jayawardene-led Kochi XI by 55 runs at Nehru Stadium in Kochi, last night. Sharma emerged as Deccan’s hero with fantastic figures of 5 for 12 in his three overs.
Delighted over his match-winning performance, Sharma said that his main aim was to bowl at good length, which eventually helped him to perform superbly.
Sharma said, "I think in this kind of track you can't, you know you don't need to experiment on your bowling. So, I think you know if you've seen that if I bowl in the consistent area, I think that gave me wickets and I think that's pretty fortunate for
me."
Put into bat first, Deccan Chargers could only manage to reach a total of 129 runs, with the help of a classy 65-run innings from captain, Kumar Sangakkara.
The target did not seem a big task for Kochi’s line-up, which includes starts like Brendon McCullum and Mahela Jayawardene. However, they could not capitalise on the situation and the whole team collapsed on a score of 74, without playing the allotted 20
overs.
Seven Kochi batsmen were dismissed on a golden duck, while only three batsmen could reach double figures.
After McCullum’s dismissal in the first over by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn, Sharma started his magic with the ball and destroyed Kochi’s top-order with both seam and bounce.
Heaping praise on Steyn for picking up McCullum’s wicket early on, Sharma explained that the explosive McCullum could have been a threat for Chargers if he had stayed at the crease for a longer period of time.
The Indian seamer added, "It gives lots of confidence on you because you know if we run out batsman like Brendon McCullum in the first over then you don't need anything. It's just you know, even I spoke to him in practice and even we are talking so much
on the meetings as well. So, I think it's nice to be with him."
Considering the five-wicket haul as one of his best IPL performances, Sharma vowed to continue with the good work in the forthcoming games.
