The 22-year-old will arrive in Montbeliard on Friday to undergo his medical with Sochaux. The Ghanaian is expected to sign a four-year contract with Les Lionceaux, if he goes through the medicals successfully.
FC Sochaux were courting the talented youngster for quite a while and have finally convinced Benfica to part ways with their player. Reports claim that both clubs have reached an agreement in principle on the transfer fee for the player.
A top Sochaux official told reporters that a deal has been finalised for the 22-year-old and the player will join the French club in a day or two.
“Benfica and Sochaux have reached an agreement in principle on the transfer fee for Ishmael Yartey to join us and the player will have his medical on Friday afternoon,” a club official revealed.
Yartey attracted a lot of interest from several top clubs in Europe following some impressive performances for Servette, where he spent last season on-loan from Benfica. French giants Lille and Marseille were keen to add the prolific youngster to their ranks
but were beaten in the race by Sochaux.
Dutch club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar and German side Borussia Monchengladbach were also keeping tabs on the player but Sochaux gave a better offer for the Ghanaian and lured him away from the Portuguese club.
Les Lionceaux, boosted by the cash from Modibo Maiga’s transfer to West Ham United, reportedly paid 5 million Dollars for the 22-year-old.
Sochaux coach Eric Hely, views Ishmael Yartey as a direct replacement for Maiga who was an influential player for the French side last season.
The youngster, who will be the first Ghanaian to play for Sochaux, was impressive for Servette last season, scoring 8 goals for the Swiss club.
Sochaux would be hoping that Yartey would fill the void created by the departure of Maiga, and expect the Ghanaian to bring much needed energy to the squad.
FC Sochaux will kick-start their 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign on August 11 when they entertain newly promoted SC Bastia at Stade Auguste Bonal.
