Ishvana earns Aidan O'Brien victory in Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot
The second day of Royal Ascot Meeting brought a couple of good news to Aidan O'Brien. The champion handler got off the mark, when Ishvana crushed some big names to seal an emphatic win in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes on Wednesday, June 20th.
Despite the fact that the 3-year-old was terrible in the beginning, she did not lose her confidence. The dashing filly made steady progress to make herself prominent just before the five furlongs.
She ran superbly to take a handsome advantage a couple of furlongs ahead of the finishing line. Although Sentaril kept creating problems for her, the champion filly handled the situation quite nicely in the final stages of the race.
An excellent effort helped the filly notch up the top rank by a length’s distance. On the other hand, William Haggas’ charge took a steady start and took keen hold. However, she could not maintain the standards all the way through and as a result, failed
to outsmart the leading runner.
Aljamaaheer was unlucky to miss the runner-up spot by a short head’s distance. The 4-1 favourite was second at one stage, but Sentaril snatched the spot from her inside the final furlong.
While Ishvana topped the table quite comprehensively, the rest of the contestants battled hard for the top three spots. Lethal Force, who missed the third place only by a head’s distance, beat Producer only by a neck’s distance.
Anne-Marie O'Brien, who owns the winner, was delighted over her filly’s wonderful success. She was not reluctant to lavish praise both on the trainer and rider for their amazing work.
"It's absolutely incredible. I'd like to thank my dad who bought her at the sales for us, he's picked out all our broodmares. We're so happy to be here. She was very impressive and showed a great turn of foot. There are lots of races to run all our fillies
in and they all want slightly different trips, I think seven furlongs suited her perfectly today," she said.
Aidan O'Brien added: "She had a very good run at the Curragh last time. She's a smart filly, she loves fast ground and shows plenty of speed."
