Isiah Thomas expresses intentions of returning to the game of Basketball - NBA Update
Former New York Knicks GM Isiah Thomas has expressed his desire of returning back to basketball in his recent comments. He did not specify whether he would like to return as a coach or a general manager, but he did contemplate
that if there is a right job, he would be more than willing to take up the task.
"I definitely want to be in basketball again whether it be coaching or as a general manager," Thomas said "My gift is basketball. I would love working with the kids. If it's the right college program, I would consider it. If it's
the right GM job or coaching job in the NBA, I would consider it. I love the game. I just want to be in the game."
Isiah also discussed the possibility of him returning to his previous team at the Big Apple, the New York Knicks, where he last served as the General Manager.
"I'm like everyone else, I keep my options open," Thomas said. "My mom always said don't burn any bridges. I followed her advice. It would have to be the right option and right place."
To Thomas, there is not much of a difference in a college program or with the NBA and if given an opportunity he would want to join a college team. He spoke of the position at college as one in which you guide the young kids towards
building a brighter and better career.
Isiah went on to contemplate on the amount of time required to build a successful program and was adamant of the fact that if the job is right and the team is good, the program can be a success.
Thomas, who was a 12 time All-Star during his playing career with the Detroit Pistons, has had a coaching experience with college teams as well. That however, much like his general manager stint, went horribly wrong. He was fired
from the position with the Florida International after finishing with a win loss record of 26-65 during his three year tenure.
While discussing the possibility of him returning to the NBA, he contemplated that coaching in the big league is not about building the players; it is rather about controlling the emotions and teaching the athletes how to deal
with every things that comes along with the stardom status.
That trait seems to be lacking in Isaiah’s repertoire, but he re-iterated that he will letthe failures of his life get in the way.
