James Dolan may have met with Isiah Thomas recently but the long time consultant is not ready for a return to the NBA yet....
Isiah Thomas has always had a respectable say in the affairs of the New York Knicks and despite his unsuccessful long tenure with the Big Apple franchise, he is still held in high regard by the Knicks front office.
According to latest reports, Knicks owner James Dolan met up with Thomas in a bid to lure him back but his return may not be happening anytime soon as a source close to the matter has revealed that the 51 year old is not ready
to make a comeback yet.
“Isiah is very close with Jim Dolan but he’s told me that he’s not ready to jump back into the NBA just yet,” said the source. “There’s this perception out there that Isiah is desperate to get back, but that’s false. I think it
will eventually happen but just not now.”
It is common perception that Thomas had a big role in the hiring of Mike Woodson and general manager Glen Grunwald and Dolan kept in touch with the former point guard throughout the off season.
There can also be no doubt that Thomas has always wanted to return to the Knicks – a team he was so determined to lead to success in his coaching tenure. He was also speculated to be in contention for a consulting position back
when he was a coach with FIU in the NCAA but that deal was terminated by the NBA.
So, even though he does not want to return at the moment and continue his Masters degree at Cal Berkeley, it does not really matter as Thomas will always have an influential say with the Knicks.
And it is only a matter of time before an official return is around the corner which will not go down very well with the Knicks fan who don’t want him back as he lead the team to 59 losses in his last season.
