Iskandar Johor Open adds more big names to its field
The Asian Tour’s season-ending Iskandar Johor Open, presented by Iskandar Waterfront Holdings, is known for attracting some of the best players from different parts of the world.
This year too, the US$2 million event has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of the Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, Thaworn Wiratchant, Sergio Garcia, Michael Campbell, and the reigning British Open champion Ernie Els.
On December 4, 2012, another three prominent players confirmed their participation in this year’s edition of the tournament. Daniel Chopra, John Daly, and Kevin Na are the recent additions to the field at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club.
Chopra, who finished second in the 2011 edition, has an unfinished business on his mind, and plans to finish one better this time.
The Swede holds a decent track record in Asia, having won the Johor Open in 1993 and the 2011 Mercuries Taiwan Masters.
Apart from that, he also won 12 other professional tournaments in different parts of the world, including two victories on the prestigious PGA Tour.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he said that he was really disappointed to miss out on the chance of winning another title in Asia last year.
Next week, he will try to make up for his defeat, by finishing at the top of the leaderboard, at the end of the tournament.
“I was disappointed not to walk away with the winner’s trophy last year at Horizon Hills so I would love to make up for it this year and finish my season on a fantastic high,” he said.
“It’s a challenging course so hopefully I can use my past experiences in Johor to get into contention from day one”.
According to the golf commentators, the 38-year-old certainly has the potential to end his 2012 golf campaign on a high note, by outshining his opponents at the Iskandar Johor Open.
Wiratchant, in the meantime, is looking forward to becoming the Asian Tour Order of Merit champion, for the second time in his career.
Currently, he is making preparations to participate in this week’s Thailand Golf Championship, the second last tournament on the Asian Tour roster.
