Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin shines in group stage of 2012 National Circuit Grand Prix Finals
Men’s Singles shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin performed exceptionally well in group stage of Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals and trounced Chong Yee Han on December 27, 2012.
This hard fought tussle was staged at the local badminton arena of Alor Setar, Malaysia and both contenders put an honest effort while piling up final figures of 19-21, 21-16 and 22-20.
The spirited Malaysian campaigner Iskandar came back from a horrendous start and locked the honour by prevailing in ending two games.
On the other hand, Yee Han had to surrender despite of winning the opening game. He could not show consistency in his performance and this ultimately led him to a woeful defeat.
In first set of the match, he played with an authoritative approach and established an early lead without any major trouble.
He put his higher ranked rival under huge pressure by placing a respectable figure of 5. He magnified the impact in next couple of rallies and finished first half of the set with an indomitable total of 11.
After the mid-game break, Yee Han played flawless badminton and served notice of his supremacy with an impressive result of 21-19.
However, he could not make best out of this first set win and knelt down tamely in the following games.
Meanwhile, Iskandar showed a transformed character in the second set and managed to bring the contest to right balance.
This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and cornered his challenger in all departments of game. His strategy was so complete that Yee Han could not find any loophole.
Iskandar made his intentions clear by gathering many valuable points straight away in the beginning and strengthened his grip by putting a mountainous figure before interval.
The latter part of game was also dominated by the young Malaysian contestant as he did not lose grip at any stage and piled up a concluding margin of 21-16.
Third set was expected to be a tough trial for both contenders as they were standing equal with one win each.
They remained close until game point situation and finally Iskandar managed to place a favourable score of 22-20.
Now he will lock horns with a higher ranked shuttler Wei Feng Chong in group stage of Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals.
