Misunderstood, sort of.  The media isn't always a trusted source for facts, which is sad because in the terms of news media, facts are supposed to be all they report.

However, they don't report ALL the facts so a lot of info they report is either open to interpretation or is missing key points.

You really need to do your own research if you're interested.  Start on wikipedia then branch out to whatever sources are listed or pick up an encyclopedia.

Islam has definitely been misunderstood. The media is trying to show that it is a religion of violence and murder, when truly it absolutely forbids murdering innocent people.

Why do you think so many people started converting to Islam after 9/11? It's because when people heard that the terrorists are muslims  they started doing research on the religion and whether it was true that Islam allowed terrorism. After doing research they realized the truth about Islam, and that it is a beautiful religion that is peaceful and against terrorism; after doing this research many misinterpretations were cleared up and people began seeing the truth of Islam.

The media just likes to put stuff on tv that makes the news interesting so they can get more viewers

Islam is at fault for any misunderstanding.

Facts:

Some practitioners of Islam say that the true religion requires them to lie, cheat, steal, murder and destroy other people.

Other practitioners of Islam, when these events occur, either remain silent or dance in the streets, making it difficult for those of us that are trying SO HARD to understand.

If my family was attacked.  The attacker would be forcibly AND PAINFULLY brought to justice.

If there was a "witness" that took no part, but made no attempt to assist my family while they were attacked, they too would be forcibly AND PAINFULLY brought to justice.

If there was a third party that rejoiced and danced while my family was attacked, they would be treated worse than the perpetrator.  

You don't have to wear a bomb to be a terrorist.

All you have to do is let those that do wear them, hide among you.

Islam has been hijacked by terrorists and has become a religion of terror and murder.

The prophet (pbuh) no longer recognizes those that practice it in this manner.

Most religions are ill-understood by "the media"...in fact, my experience as a journalist is simply  the "average" believers in any specific religion don't completely understand their own faith.

However, it's dangerous to paint the "media" with too wide a brush and dismiss the entire "media" with "hyping Islam."

Let me ask you a question in return, have you taken the time to try to find out what Islam (or any specific religion) REALLY believes?  I think that should be your study.
