Islamabad's pacers crush Sialkot in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy
Islamabad defeated Sialkot by an innings and 50 runs in a 10th round fixture of the 2010-11 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division One. This is a huge upset as Sialkot’s young guns have done quite well in the current season, while
this is Islamabad’s first win in the tournament. After the 10th round, Sialkot is in seventh position on the points table in Division One, whereas Islamabad are still reeling in 10th spot with only 18 points from 10 matches.
Sialkot won the toss and elected to field first in bowling friendly conditions at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad. It turned out to be a wise decision initially, as both Islamabad’s openers were dismissed without scoring. However the home side's middle-order
came to the party and helped Islamabad post 319 runs in their first innings. Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faizan-Riaz-c56754 was the top-scorer for Islamabad with a well-made 79 off 110 balls, which included 11 boundaries. Left-hander Imad Wasim also played well
to score a brilliant 70, which came off only 92 balls and included 10 fours.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asim-Butt-c46521 took three wickets
each.
In reply Sialkot’s batsmen failed to make an impression and the whole team was bundled out for a mere 131 runs in just 36.4 overs. As a result, the visitors conceded a first innings lead of 188 runs and could not avoid follow-on. Majid Jehangir was the only
batsman from Sialkot to have shown some resistance, as he scored a solid half-century. He scored 56 runs off 79 balls with the help of eight boundaries and remained unbeaten. The most prolific run-getters from Sialkot this season, Mansoor Amjad and Mohammad
Ayub, failed to trouble the scorers in the first innings. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 also grabbed four wickets to support Fakhar.
Following on, Sialkot’s batsmen were not able to handle the pressure, as they were once again bowled out for a cheap score of 138 runs. The only resistance in the second innings came in shape of the visiting captain Mansoor Amjad, who scored 59 runs off
as many balls batting at number seven. He struck nine boundaries in the losing cause. However Mohammad Ayub, who is having a wonderful season in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, got a pair in this match.
Nasrullah Khan grabbed a five-wicket haul in the second innings to complete his nine wickets in the match. Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rauf-c84151 Akbar took four wickets for the home team to lead from the front, while the hero of the first innings Fakhar Hussain managed to pick up
two wickets.
Sialkot will be quite disappointed with their effort in the 10th round, as they have displayed better performances this season against much stronger opponents than Islamabad.
