I was recently told about an island which was made out of aircraft carriers and is afloat somewhere. Apparently, the island has no laws, and is responsible for a lot of internet crime that has been committed over the years. I cant seem to find any information about this island..let alone a name!! Can anyone please help me and perhaps give me a link to some websites about it? I dont know of its location or much at all about it....

  1. It's called Waterworld, and it's run by Kevin Costner.

  2. It doesn't exist.

    1. Aircraft carriers are far too expensive to be used for something like that.

    2. They would need some sort of connection to the internet. Obviously no land line hookup would be available and most satellite internet is too slow and unreliable for real use in computer crime.

    3. If it did exist it would be easily stopped at the connection. Internet crime is a problem from countries that have a mix of legitimate and illegitimate users as you can't simply block the connection.

  3. can you say april fool? you n00b...

  4. what date is today?

  5. Actually, you're not that far off.

Although  your question is a great example of the "telephone game", as with all things passed by word of mouth, there is always some truth to the idea.

There is a steel platform off the english coast, which was built during World War II. It was a Naval Fort used for many things but eventually abandoned.

It was "taken over" by Roy Bates in the 60's and named

Sealand, it is officially known today as the Principality of Sealand. It is considered a micronation.

They have their own monetary system, stamps, and passports. They have "sold" stewardship of the Principality to

an internet company because of the safe haven status that owning your own country provides.

So there is no floating atol of aircraft carriers, but there is a seabased "man made" nation providing the same sorts of freedoms.
