Islanders’ winger, Matt Moulson, expects a bright future for the New York Islanders - NHL
Matt Moulson has come time and again been questioned as to why he is staying in a team like New York Islanders even though he can get into one of the top teams of the National Hockey League. The winger, who has shown his talent and productivity every now and then, signed a three year deal with the Islanders worth $9.45 million.
The amazing thing is that each time he has come across this question, his answer has been the same.
He says that anyone who is not part of the Islanders’ team cannot understand this. He further adds that anyone who is not in the team practices or team meetings will never understand the importance of New York Islanders to him.
"More often than not, the people who asked me that question are people outside of the organization", Moulson said. "Sometimes the Islanders get a bad rep. The organization isn't as successful as they want it to be, or how it has been in the past. But that's fine with us. We know we have a lot of potential to do well, and I think we have a real bright future".
Moulson signed the three-year deal with the team since he feels good in the team and even though they didn’t make it into the playoffs this season, he thinks that the team has the potential to achieve great success and is going in the right direction.
Islanders struggled in the NHL regular season as they finished last in the Atlantic Division and this has been the case for them since the last four seasons.
They have been unsuccessful in making it into the playoffs in the last five of their six attempts. However, Moulson is optimistic about the fact that Islanders will perform well next season and also make it to the play-offs.
"We're definitely a playoff team", Moulson said. "And I don't think we'll be satisfied with anything less than that".
Moulson said that the team has taken a huge turn and now they are much better. He has come up with some brilliant performances for Islanders in the two years he has been in the team.
He joined Islanders in 2009 from Los Angeles Kings and has scored 30-plus goals in both seasons.
The last season was very disappointing for Islanders since it managed to win only 30 games and was prone to numerous injuries.
The player expects that the team will be among the top eight teams since they will be landing a Top 10 draft pick this season.
