http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-c2925 at Corfu – European Championship Division Two Twenty20 (Semi final) – Match Update
Bolstered by the strength of a concentrated bowling effort, Isle of Man claimed a 39-run win over Israel in their European Championship Division Two Twenty20 semi-final, played at the Marina Ground in Corfu on September 7.
Isle of Man won the toss and elected to bat first, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-David-Morris-c58397 (53) opening the innings for their side. The former was dismissed early, by Israel skipper Herschel Gutman, but Morris powered on, setting up a 41-run stand with Philip
Littlejohns (19).
The partnership was broken up by Josh Evans (4-0-9-3) who took Littlejohns out of the game. However, Morris went to team up with Oliver http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Webster-c65053 (5) for a 26-run partnership, which got the team up to 72 before Evans swooped in again to claim Webster as his
second victim of the day.
Gareth Roome (2) followed him shortly afterwards, trapped lbw by Evans, and Isle of Man lost three more quick wickets in the form of Morris and Gareth Dawson (3) – both of whom were dismissed by Kapila Perere (4-0-29-2) – followed by Alex Stokoe (6) who
was caught by Gutman off Gerrit Grundling.
Mark http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 (39*), however, provided the team an extra burst at the end, and Isle of Man eventually posted a final total of 136 by the end of 20 overs, at the expense of 7 wickets.
The team followed up the batting performance with an intense bowling attack led by Williams (4-0-13-3) and Max Stokoe (3.3-0-16-3), with Roome (4-0-26-2) and Arnie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 den Berg (4-1-20-2) chipping in with supporting acts. Their efforts saw Israel crumbling,
all out, at a meagre 97.
Two of Israel’s batsmen were dismissed on duck, and with the exception of Daniel Hyman (18), Josh Evans (34), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danny-Hotz-c52377 (10), the rest of the players failed to rise above single-digit scores. The highest partnership was a 46-run stand between Hyman
and Evans, but it failed to have any impact by itself.
By the 19th over, Israel were all out, having managed to reach just 97 – 39 runs short of the target. The victory set Isle of Man up for the tournament final against Sweden on September 8, while Israel will be facing Spain in the 3rd place play-off
on the same date.
