  1. You just asked the same question 3 different ways, congratulations.

  2. somebody has a crush!!

  3. I actually think Malkin might be a little better myself. The reason Crosby gets the attention is because he's the face not only of the franchise but the NHL. To know why that is you'd have to ask marketing executives. Every team has a player that the fans just love and sometimes that player isn't even the best on the team. You really can't take anything away from Crosby though, he is pretty awesome, and there arn't a ton of guys in the league better then him.

By the way I'm a wings fan.

  4. As a life long Pens fan and one that was around during the Mario/Jagr age....

Crosby is a young, articulate Captain of a NHL team (which means he's the talking head of the team) who also has a face and smile that the camera likes-much like Mario did- so YES Crosby is over EXPOSED.  But, he's not a goal hog.  Like others have said, he makes others look better by foreseeing a play  and setting it up (like chess strategy) where then his teammate gets the goal and he "just" gets the assist. In that way  he is by no means overrated.

Malkin, on the other hand, has not mastered the English language yet and does not have a camera friendly face, much like Jagr did when he came out of Czechoslovakia (but Jagr was cuter).

Malkin, in the city of Pittsburgh, is honored just as much as Sid.  Pittsburgher's really understand and know Geno's worth. We know that he is mostly responsible for turning the season  around when we all thought it was doomed when Sid went out.  We just can't walk up and talk to him, nor can he walk into a hospital and casually talk to sickly pediatric patients.  We really don't  "know" Geno yet. In other words, he's not able to drum up a celebrity public persona, where Crosby can without even trying.

It's the media, especially outside the Burgh, that seem to salivate over Crosby.  I can understand how fans from other teams would get p.o.'d over this since it can get on my nerves too and I'm a fan!

My fear is that Malkin over time and when he has a better grasp of the lingo will become bitter over the lopsided coverage and leave the team much the way Jagr did.  I hope that never happens...

  5. Are you in love with malkin?

  6. Enigma

Ovechkin scored 112 points in 82 games, an average of 1.3659 points/game

Crosby scored 72 points in 53 games, an average of 1.3585 points/game, or 111.396 points in 82 games.

Either way, this past year, Ovechkin outscored Crosby, had Crosby played the whole season at the same pace, Ovechkin STILL wins the Art Ross trophy.  So, I'm not sure what math you're using, but my calculator matches what is on NHL.com.

Is Crosby overrated?  Not at all.  He's accomplished a lot more than most players his age.  Malkin hasn't accomplished near as much.

After 160 games, Crosby had 222 points - Malkin had 191 (Wayne Gretzky had 304, Ovechkin had 195)

Crosby won a scoring title in his 2nd year - Malkin didn't

Crosby won the Hart Trophy his 2nd year - Malkin won't

Crosby won the Pearson award his 2nd year - Malkin won't

Crosby ranked 3rd in points/game this past year (behind Forsberg and Ovechkin), Malkin was 4th - i.e. behind Crosby

So, once Malkin has the accomplishments that Crosby has (and currently he doesn't), then maybe he'll get the accolades that Crosby gets.

  7. I live in Pittsburgh, and have watched 90% of the games they played this year, including every playoff game.  Sidney Crosby is arguably the best player in the league.    Malkin is not far behind though, as he proved when Crosby was out for 28 games and he carried the team on his back.  Crosby has the ability to score game changing goals and make every player on his team better.  When Wayne Gretzky calls you the best player he's seen, thats the truth.  Malkin while a great scorer, does not have the vision on the ice that Crosby does.  Crosby will go on to break many of the records that Gretzky and Mario Lemieux set.

  8. Have you seen Crosby play? Fast, committed, playmaker, strong on the puck. There is a reason he scores a lot of points.  Malkin is pretty darn good too and probably is more blessed because of his size, and he has gotten credit for this year if you read the Pittsburgh papers. Crosby's is being made the face of the league, not by his choice either, but because he is that good (ask Gretzky). Malkin does not speak much english yet, so he is not given much publicity, at least not like other players. They are both stars and each can be a cornerstone for a franchise.

  9. I do agree for the season. Crosby had an injury and Malkin has stepped up. But Crosby will bring it next season or in the Stanely Cup

  10. I think he deservedly gets as much credit as Sidney, it is just the same when Mario and Jaromir were on the Pens.  Maybe people think of Crosby first because he was in the league one year longer than Evgeni.  The big three of Crosby, Malkin and Hossa are definetly the best in the league.

  11. Crosby is not overrated.  He is 20 years old and does things most 10 year vets couldn't do.  Malkin is a little over shadowed, but he has caught the attention of the league this year.  He is just as good as Crosby in my opinion.

  12. Crosby is easier to market because his English is a lot better. Plus, Crosby has been marketable since is Rimouski days, so why start from scratch with Malkin? That's just too much work...

  13. Crosby isn't overrated. He is Overexposed. The NHL and it's fans need to know that there's many players who are almost as good and if not better then Crosby.

I swear Malkin isn't gonna sign with them.I sure as h**l wouldn't wanna be in someones shadow and being the 2nd line centerman for my career.

  14. Crosby=HIGHLY overrated. The guy hasnt even Played 5 years LOL. Malkin is overrated too. the pens in general are overrated. Once these guys play for 9 10 years we will see how good they really are.. some guys do great for 2 3 years then just plain suck. some guys do great for 2 3 years... then just get better. once they mature into veteran hockey players.. will you truly get to see how great they really are.

  15. Crosby is probably better all around, but Malkin is DEFINATELY the better goal scorer.

Crosby has a way of making everyone around him better, though.

  16. I agree, I think Crosby is over-rated too. Of course, I've always disliked it when they (the media) singles one player out, I mean, isn't hockey a team sport???  Ok bring on the thumbs-down.

  17. Numerically Sid is a lot better, he has played 210 regular season games, scored 100 goals, and has about 295 points, that's close to 1.4 points per game. 300 points in 2 and a half seasons! If he continues at that rate,  by the end of his career he will have around 2300 points,That puts him about 400 points shy of Gretzky all-time and second overall. That is worth the hype in my opinion.

The kid is also only 21.

I think that people think so much about him because his juinor number were so rediculous. He scored 95 goals in 76 games when he played in nova scotia minor hockey and had 160+ points in the quebec juinor hockey league, when he was only 16!!!

This year, If he would have played the whole year, he would have notched 115 points. That's 5 more then the potential hart trophy winner Ovechkin.

Yes, Malkin is good, but his numbers don't even come close to Sid's. He is young but Sid is younger.

And if you ask me, to watch Sid, he is a lot better in raw talent then his russian counterpart.

Nevermind the fact that Sid is a lot more competent as a leader and plays at a consistent high level more often then Malkin. If you watch Malkin when Sid is playing and when Sid is not playing, he is a completley different hockey player. It's like he gets intimadated by Sid, and plays at a lesser level then he is capable.

I also think that Sid has a lot more potential for growth then Malkin. I think that Malkin will peak in two-three years whereas Sid is going to keep getting better for the next 6 or seven years, when he will plateau and continue to be fantastic into his midthirties.

and finally, this may sound weird but as a canadian, Sid has a lot more heart and passion to play the game at a top level all the time.
