"Sins" in America:

Greed- America is capitalist, hello?

Lust- it's everywhere and in everyone, even Republicans

Adultery- 1 in 2 men cheat, 1 in 4 women cheat

Gluttony- Fast food, buffets, the rise of obesity in America

Vanity- plastic surgery and make-up are everywhere

Divorce- 50% of marriages end in divorce

Not keeping the "sabbath day" holy- lot of places are open on Sunday

I think religious people fiercly condemn homosexuality is because they're not guilty of it and never will, and that why they can ignore their own sins. That's what I think. BTW, I'm a strong rational atheist.

  1. I'm not a big fan of the "rational atheist" part, but I do agree that it's a tad hypocritical. However, America's not the church (separation of church and state, remember?) Most Christians condemn everyone, except themselves obviously. I, being bisexual myself, have no problem with homosexuality. Remember though: religion's completely how you take it, so to one person it could be, and to the next it couldn't.

  2. very much agreed

  3. I think you hit the nail on the head with your last paragraph.

No fundamentalist preacher is going to risk alienating half his congregation (or more!) by delivering a bible-thumping fire-and-brimstone sermon on how divorcees, or adulterers, or fat people, are going to h**l for their sinful ways.  But homosexuality is the one "sin" that every Christian fundamentalist can safely condemn and feel self-righteously virtuous about -- "Hey", they think, "OK, I cheat on my taxes and on my wife, I'm too focused on business to pay much attention to my kids, I eat too much, lust after that cute administrative assistant in my office, and go shopping at the mall on Sundays -- but at least I ain't one of them g-ddamn q****s!"

Can YOU say "hypocrite", boys and girls?  I knew you could......

  4. Everyone carries their own sin, so what.  Worry about your own and not to bother with others.  Unless you want to carry their burdens upon you.  Jesus already did that for us and our part in it is to repent and forgive others.  But I had a good time here tonight chatting with you all.  You guys do have a big sense of humor.  I'm loving it.

  5. Homosexuality is the "in" sin. The one that people are flipping out about now, but will eventually learn to live with. I recall the scene in Walk the Line, where June Carter gets c**p from that stuck-up woman in the general market for being a divorcee... Now, that's down south, but I think we're past that now... we'll get past this homophobia too, eventually.

  6. Yes it is very hypocritical of alot of religious ppl not all most. I personally am religious but I don't believe in the bible I don't judge ppl I live my life as a good person the best I know how. I have family members that Say they are christian ect but they sit and judge ppl everyday saying they are going to h**l the Lord doesn't like those ppl ect..it's ppl like them that make me sick and give christians like me a bad name.

  7. I thought g*y people didn't like blanket statements .And judgments?

  8. The Bible condemns homosexuality.

  9. just goes to prove:  the religious right is neither.

    peace and grace,

  10. They're holding onto what they can-- can you blame them?

Although as compared to a generation ago, I was raised much more conservative than my parents, sweet jesus it's a losing battle for them now.

  11. The religious like to pick and choose what to believe

If something effects their lives, they say "We shouldn't take it literally". But once something does not effect them in any way, they are ALL for it

Religion is nonsense and a waste of time

  12. Who cares if they condemn, this is a free country and we are free to ignore them. People need to ignore them and stop giving them attention.

  13. Yes it is. I have a religious aunt who couldn't even look at me after she found out I was bi. She owns very nice vehicles that get S****y gas mileage, lies about drinking and smoking, and has been divorced.
