  1. It's not obvious to the people that live there.  They call him PA's third senator and he does represent their ideals often in the Senate.

  2. Nope. I lived there. About as blue as can be. Now in the country surrounding it, it is very red (in the Pocono's for example.)

  3. as a pennsylvanian who lives on the delaware border, if obama thinks by nominating Biden he is somehow going to get DE, and PA, he is totally mistaken. There is to much at risks for voters to vote for him simply cause of name recognition. I think this time around name recognition is way to superficial.

  4. The point is, Biden has working class roots. His parents were not well off and they didn't go to college.

The politics of Scranton in 2008 or in 1942 are irrelevant, but that area would likely have been Democrat. People were smarter back then, and they voted consistent with their economic interests. In other words the working and middle class KNEW that Republicans were only for the rich.

  5. Yes, it is a very "red" part of the state.  And no, we don't consider Biden any kind of representative of Pennsylvania.

  6. No.  It is union country with coal mines, other basic industries.  The Pennsylvania Dutch are conservative.  But they don't vote.

  7. I think other than Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, the rest of the state is red.

  8. I don't know, but didn't Biden run for president

twice and had to drop because his ratings were

    so low (1% , I believe)?  I don't see that he's

changed any, so why do Democrats think

choosing him is red hot now? Is the public more

liberal now than when Biden ran before? The

Democrats now have the most liberal

candidates that they've ever had (Obama # 1

    and Biden # 3).

  9. I have family all over Pennsylvania, and from what I know of Scranton, it's the redneck alcoholic area of the state.  Nice peoples, but really drunk and with lots of plumbers-butt.  Scranton is the South Jersey of Pennsylvania, but with less Aquanet and blue eyeshadow.

  10. Well, he is going back to educate the rednecks.
