that voice say am sorry to announce that the blah blah train to so and so station has been delayed or even worse cancelled. I hate that voice, it so annoying especially when you are going to meet someone or a job interview and you need to get there at a specfic time. I just feel like smashing the speaker with a hammer when i hear that man's voice. He never has good news, there should be somewhere to complain to about trains. Th e point i am making is that when i take the bus i no that i am taking a risk but with a train you at least expect better service considering that its so ******* expensive. excuse my language

  1. PREACH!  I agree with you 100% and when I hear that voice, I usually kick the vending machine on the platform (it's too heavy to pick up and chuk onto the line)

  2. i totally agree with u here but i have even more reason 2 not want 2 hear the voice on the other end of the speakers cause usally it is my boyfriends ex wife voice so its very annoying 2 hear her voice everytime i have 2 get the train i feel sorry 4 my boyfriend most tho as he has 2 listen 2 her voice everyday at work as he works 4 the trains lol

  3. there will be a good reason why the train is cancelled, points failure,no driver, engine failure, etc:so you just have to get on with it,if you want to complain, there are travellers charter, available from station master/booking office,or details on a poster somewhere on platform.

  4. If I were your potential employer and found that your train had been cancelled/delayed, I would ask "why didn't you plan for this and catch an earlier train?". Fail to plan, plan to fail. Sh*t happens, deal with it.

Why do I think this won't be picked as "best answer"?! Ho hum.

  5. I agree, public transport in this country is a joke.

  6. yeah i know and half the time when they make the announcement its very unclear and you cant hear a word they are saying especially when its on the london underground...one of the guys voice its just so fizzy and cant hear him

public transport can be very good service but they hsve big problems with delays, signal failures, bomb scares etc

  7. Yes, and isn't it annoying when you have to queue for hours at an airport because there is an air traffic controllers strike in France, or sit in a queue on the motorway for hours because there has been an accident somewhere, or you stand in the rain waiting for a bus that doesn't come. In other words - GET REAL. All forms of transport have hang ups from time to time. And if, whilst waiting, you read some of the posters on the platform you will find details posted of exactly how you can complain about trains.

  8. Yep, but these days I plan a head and catch an earlier train!

  9. So, if you take the train and something happens, you are told about it and can usually wait in the dry and call someone.

You take the bus and it doesn't turn up, you just get wet.

You drive a car, get stuck in traffic.

You cycle, you get a flat, it take time to fix.

If you want to get there on time walk!

    So who do you blame?

Blame no one, stuff happens, deal with it, call your appointment and update them with the situation, but ALWAYS plan for some delays in any journey.

  10. Yes i agree with you, but let me clarify a few things for you:

A lot of train delays are down to vandals, suicidal people, cable theft, and genuine failures.

It is no good comparing UK to another country, because we have an extremely busy railway transport infrastructure which the government are not willing to put the amount of money in which is needed.

This government allow more and more people in the country and don't invest in any of the infrastructure (including police, schools, hospitals etc...).

The railways must be better now than they were some years ago and there has been a lot of investment.

The truth is most of the problems we experience today in all walks of life are from a lawless overcrowded society, and this has knock on effects right down to your train been late.

If you wish to complain you can but i am not sure who you complain to... try your MP.

    Hope this helps.

  11. IME Buses are more expensive then trains. (and are much less reliable)

ie from where I live into the nearest city (10 miles) is £3 by train - £5 by bus

The UK system isn't as well funded as others, with a lot of the costs being swallowed up in the government created beauracracy. Contrary to popular belief the rail companies make relativly little profit on their turnovers. Most of the money from increased fares is to pay the department of transport's huge premiums! And if a company is doing a good job from the passengers point of view they are stripped of their franchise to make way for a cattle truck operator who will pay the Department of Transport more money!

  12. Sometimes it is me that has to make those announcements, there is nothing I hate more than being given information by my control office that a train is going to be reinstated instead of cancelled, for me to make the announcement and tell everybody and then to see the train sail through the station without stopping......it is just as frustrating for me when that happens and i have 60-70 people on a platform all blaming me for what has happened.

Please don't shoot the messengers, we want a reliable train service just as much as you guys.

  13. yea

  14. yeah plus when they make the announcement I'm sure you can hear them smug gits snickering, just makes you want to creep into there warm office and smack them around the back of the head with a rolled up newspaper

  15. And what is more than annoying, is when you as customers come ranting and raving to those who work at that station and have nothing to do with the cancellation!

Getting annoyed and taking it out on the staff wont help, just ask for a complaints form! And a specific reason why the train has been cancelled.
