Sponsorship??? It was Winston for so long until the antismokers got their way and nanny government stepped in and put a kabosh to that. Wouldn't want people making up their own minds not to smoke. Then for a little bit it's Nextel. Ok...finally I get used to Nextel and now Sprint? Sprint doesn't even roll off the tongue very well. *Sprint cup* . Nope. Doesn't do a thing for me. What's next? The Always Cup (with wings!!) And then there are the sponsors for any car. Who else sees the red Budweiser and can't get used to Kasey Kahne in it? (I DO LIKE KASEY PEOPLE)...also Elliot Sadler has always been the CandyMan...now he's...what? I can't even think and he is in my top five. Something black and white I think. Anyway...the question is don't you just wish that the sponsors would stick around and stay put?

  1. The Always Cup with wings, LMAO, I'm sure all the guys want that as the sponsor!!

As far as the car sponsorships that's been around since the beginning, how many different sponsors did DW have in his career? I couldn't even tell you, and I was his fan!!

Just a part of the sport, I just roll with it..

  2. It is changing a lot isn't it. I wish they  would leave the cars alone and let them figure it out so they can race.

  3. lol at always cup with wings

i heard it will be the tampon cup  in 2010   j/k

or maybe the dush cup in 2012 j/k

but they need to stick with one sponsor nad let it be.... nationwide is the dumbest name i have ever hear it should of been keep busch period....

  4. It,s all about the almighty buck...It,s not about the racing as much as the buck...In the old days you were lucky to win enough money to come back the next week...If you won a couple you could go to the dealership and buy a new race car...Now it,s a multi million dollar commercial....You have to spend millions to get millions....This is why toyota is winning...They are spending money on r&d like no one else....And everyone else is pissed off....

  5. the teams own the sponsors duh

and yeah it must be real hard to look at a big red car with a big # 9 on it and think wow that must be kasey khane.  and sorry that you dont know how to say the word SPRINT not my problem.

  6. It's just a part of life in NASCAR.  It took me forever to start calling it Winston Cup.  It had been NASCAR Grand National almost from it's inception.  It wasn't until 84 they started calling it Winston Cup.  BTW, the reason it's Sprint Cup now, is that Sprint bought out Nextel.

Smoken20......it took me the better part of 5 minutes to figure out what all you were talking about.  It helps to get close when spelling something....like douche, or Trojan.  Another thing, Nationwide isn't just some made-up word NASCAR came up with to call the lower series.  It's the sponsor's name, Nationwide Insurance.  Haven't you ever heard the catch phrase "Nationwide is on your side"?  It's on all of their TV and radio commercials.

Tina...I agree wholeheartedly!!  Leave the effing cars alone!!!  In the parodied words of Pink Floyd...."Hey, NASCAR, Leave them cars alone!"

Bubastiss, I hear ya' man!!!  I miss the Daytona 500 on CBS, Bristol on ESPN, Atlanta on WTBS (NOT TBS)!!!

  7. I don't like all the changes.  I didn't like when Winston left the sport (and no, they were not kicked out, it was their choice), I don't like the chase format, I didn't like when Busch left and Nationwide took over, I don't like the new car, I preferred the Bud Pole award over the Coors Light pole award, I even liked it better before Fox, NBC, ESPN, and TNT took over.  There were far less commercials before the broadcast channels took over.  Even with all the things that I have disliked over the 16 years I've been watching, I still sit in front of the TV every Sunday and watch them go round in circles.
