Isn't it a bad time to get a driver's license???

I never got mine.... I'm in my 20's.

Well, now my 40-something sister's son (my nephew) is getting his license, and I feel like I'm being picked on a lot!

Personally, I think it's a HORRIBLE time to get a driver's license, what with the global warming crisis and HIGH gas prices!!! Why would I want to do that?

Isn't it a bad time to get one, or am I a tool for NOT getting my license? I might be moving to New York soon, too, so I really have no need.

  1. Don't let them bother you by the Jokes,You make some really good points with the gas prices the way they are and if you are moving to New york you can walk or take a cab or bus and it would be cheaper than having a car and keeping up oil being changed and the sparks plugs and such it and putting gas in it and pay for car inc.

  2. the only bad time to try and get a license is in winter, because of the bad road conditions

  3. If you do not plan on driving, then no, you don't need a driver's license...I presume that you have a state-issued ID card.

As new technologies come in, driving will become more affordable and more geo-friendly...You may wish that you had a license...But the cost of finding a vehicle, taking lessons and getting insurance would not be worthwhile for you...On top of all that, I believe that within the next 25-35 years, you will not need a driver's license to drive because vehicles will be fully automatic and voice controlled...A 5 y.o. would be able to 'drive.'..And NY has a fine public transit system.

    All the best.

  4. its not just for driving, its 2nd most widely accepted form of identification.

  5. Having one and using one are two different things. Its good to get one and not use but not good to need one and not have one.

  6. It's never a bad time to get a license.  What happens if you're out with your friends, and they had too much to drink - and you didn't?  Wouldn't you want to be able to drive home safely?

Then again, if you're moving to a place with ample public and mass transit, I don't know what the statistics are about driver's license.

Just because you have a license doesn't mean you have to go buy a gas guzzler :)  It's nice to have I.D.

  7. It's really your choice. Who cares about what other people think. I just think it's a good idea to have it in case you do need it sometime or ever want to buy a car.
