Question:

Isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice?"?

  1. Not if you have a good command of the English language, and  understand that "practice" also means something that you on a regular basis.

    Like, "practice good hygiene".


  2. It is kind of spooky but the guy before me is right.

  3. It's no different from lawyers, who also say that they "practice" their trade.

    And if you really think about it, every day is a new day for a doctor, with new patients, new disorders, new treatments.  So essentially it is a job where you practice, make mistakes (hopefully not serious ones), learn from errors, and then get better at what you do.

  4. Your question is one of play on words.  Use a dictionary and you will find there are several definitions for the term practice.
